November Ballot to Include a Proposition on Breaking California Into Three States

Press release from Citizens for Cal 3:

Citizens for Cal 3 (cal3.com)…announced their ballot initiative was approved for inclusion on the statewide election this November. This qualification by the California State Office of Elections gives Californians an unprecedented opportunity to direct a more promising future for their communities. The Cal 3 ballot initiative will give all Californians a vote to create three states from the existing one.

“This milestone is a testament to the energized spirit of Californians wanting to create a better future for themselves and their communities,” Citizens for Cal 3 spokesperson Peggy Grande said. “This November, all Californians have the opportunity to send the message they are ready for solutions to our most pressing state issues in failing education, crumbling infrastructure, sky-high taxes and stagnation in state government.”

The Cal 3 initiative gathered and submitted to the California Secretary of State office more than double the required signatures needed to qualify for the ballot, representing citizens who supported the opportunity to declare their desire for a new direction. Cal 3 qualified for the ballot with more than the required number of signatures, representing Californians from all 58 counties.

“The growing discontent with the ineffectiveness of the current state government system is apparent with the success of this first step,” Grande said. “All Californians deserve more from their state, and with Cal 3, more regional responsiveness and more meaningful results will create a promising future for everyone.”

Last month, a new analysis from U.S. News & World Report and McKinsey’s “Leading States Index” quantified Californians’ enthusiasm for a change with Cal 3, ranking California an unacceptable 50th out of 50 U.S. states in “Quality of Life” and near the bottom of the nation in critical areas like K-12 Education, Road Quality, Tax Burden and Long-Term Fiscal Stability.

“The California state government isn’t too big to fail, because it is already failing its citizens in so many crucial ways,” Grande said. “The reality is that for an overmatched, overstretched and overwrought state-government structure, it is too big to succeed. Californians deserve a better future.”

Once approved by voters through the ballot this November, the Cal 3 initiative would move forward to the U.S. Congress and, ultimately, the President of the United States for ratification.

Yes State of Jefferson! This Cal 3 thing sticks us with San Francisco, which sucks. They need to be lumped in with LA and the rest of the flat landers whose cores they are more aligned with. Please don’t stick us with Pelosi, the entire country is trying to get away from that loon.

Thank you! please don’t stick us with SF as the majority of voters. Cars and guns will be outlawed, there will be universal healthcare but income tax will be 85 percent, if all your products aren’t made of hemp or recycled San Francisco Chronicles you will be fined 1.8 million dollars. Your water will be taxed to pay for safe injection sites and I can’t even imagine the new school curriculum, all 63 genders will be taught before your abc’s. I could go on and on. Police will not be armed and have to ask for affirmative consent before touching any minority persons person or belongings. Your house will have to be made entirely of solar panels making every home cost 3/4 million, but then there will be a affordable housing crisis and homelessness so they will have to raise the property tax on your solar panel house.

I don’t think I have ever read anything as so ignorant as this. Thanks Mike.

haha, I joke but you try to hurt. Ignorant has lost its definition in this political stage, like literally, or nazi, or racist, or intolerant, or fascist, it now basically means someone who disagrees with you. “Intolerance will not be tolerated”

San Francisco has a population limited by geography and regulation to under a million. I suppose that the new capital would be Redding as centrally located. We’d be stuck with Berkely but that’s not all bad.

Interesting that the dark blue counties don’t take Silicon Valley, SF and Marin.

Nothing stupider than the “Jefferson” movement and its followers. When I see Jefferson logos I automatically roll my eyes. Ridiculous.

Care to elaborate? I think there is nothing stupider than a person who says something is stupid without a reason. It means their reason is not very good or that there is no reason at all. That is my reason, what is yours?

The tax base is almost entirely down south. Then the state redistributes to poor counties (that’s us). Being on our own would impoverish rural counties.

So San Francisco and Sacramento would be in 1 section, nor cal.. Existing taxes will all change. Be sure to check how deep this vote is before everyone jumps in.

Why the name Jefferson?
It’s plain ugly. I don’t want to live in the state of Jefferson.
Pick a rivers name, pick a Mountain, The state of Shasta. Pick anything that doesn’t ring of slaves and white pillared mansions, old men’s faces, and history I can’t recall.

A classic case of divide and conquer if you ask me. This state has the 6th or 7th economy in the world and is pretty solidly democratic in representation. Busting the state into 3 parts would not be to anyone’s benefit but those rich enough to take advantage of all the economic dislocation that would result.

I take that back, Putin would probably love it and laugh his ass off!

Despite all it’s problems, California is the greatest state in the country. Despite all it’s problems the U.S. is still the greatest country in the world.
