Body Found in Laytonville Pond After Extensive Search

Breaking news graphicSouthern Humboldt County Technical Rescue public information officer, Thomas Norris confirmed today that a body was found in the Laytonville area this morning. He said the body was found in a large pond/small lake on the 3000 block of Branscomb Road.

Norris said the man had been missing since Saturday when he was last seen on the dock during a party on the property.

Searchers from various agencies have been looking in and around the deep pond for the last several days. “Shawn Studebaker and I [from Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue] performed a search with Kayaks yesterday,” said Norris. “Monday, [another search group] had some divers out there.”

Norris said his team showed up to search this morning but the missing man was located earlier.

We’ve requested more information from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department and will update when we hear back from them.

Glad he was found.. Ever try to swim when you have had a few too many? Really difficult. Sympathy to family.

Yes, I have tried to “swim drunk” and it’s NOT a good idea.

I understand people’s fears about this, but I knew him very closely and he was not intoxicated.

Poor guy. It happened at the old Trout Farm in Laytonville… new owners call it “Mendocino Magic.” Not very magical if you ask me. Their crudely drawn sign out by the road looks like it was made with a sharpie and some scrap wood. I heard they were having an event to coincide with the Enchanted Forest festival, with no permits or lifeguards on duty. Sad.
