At approximately 2:34 p.m., an accident north of Weott and south of the Honeydew exit on Hwy 101 shut down both southbound lanes, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page and Armand Moore who was driving through the area.

The occupants of the truck received only minor injuries, according to the CHP page.

The Avenue of the Giants is being used by some local residents as a detour but traffic is backed up for quite a distance on the highway.

UPDATE 7:17 p.m.: Open now.

Yesterday about 1:30 pm I drove past what looked like a bad accident between a CalTrans truck and a smaller maroon truck. It was just after the northbound freeway onramp from Benbow. I haven’t seen one word about it. Does anyone know?

I was the first responder on scene for this accident… I’m still very much concerned for the well-being of the driver. His injuries were certainly not minor. If anyone knows of how I can check in on those two, you would be helping me put myself at ease.

Thank you very

Driver apparently had one surgery on Thursday and remains at St. Joe’s in Eureka pending scalp graft on Monday; otherwise, alert and in good spirits.
