Press release from the Scouts:

On this beautiful, sunny Memorial Day weekend when many people are thinking about recreational activities, Scouts from Fortuna were involved in remembering those who have made this nation’s freedom possible.

Scouts from Cub Pack 47, Scout Troops 47 & 205, and Venture Scouts from Troop 42 spent Saturday morning placing flags at graves of Fortuna area veterans at five area cemeteries.

Hundreds of small flags were placed on graves at Cemeteries in Fortuna and Hydesville as part of an annual tradition sponsored by the Fortuna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2207.

The flags will remain on the veterans’ graves throughout the Memorial Day weekend, and Scouts will remove and store them on Monday evening

Let your kids grow up to be cowboys. But please, don’t let your kids grow up to be soldier fodder for our Gov’t. Tell every young adult to not support a War Machine, but to support a Peace Machine. Protecting our freedoms. What a crock. The last time our freedoms were in jeopardy was the Civil War. Other than Japan who even if the won they had no idea how to occupy this country the other wars were for other countries or like Iraq just plain stupid. Enough killing our young people. And yes I am a Vietnam veteran. 68W
