SoHum Chamber’s Featured Business of the Week: The Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt

Every week the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce features a business of the week. We’ll be sharing their posts here to celebrate our community.

This week’s featured business of the week is The Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt!

The Community Credit Union was first founded in 1979 by a handful of visionary people who saw that our small, remote community needed basic banking services. From the beginning stages of a small office location in Redway, this reliable and efficient business has now evolved into a fully functional, professional financial institution that has been providing banking services to its community members for over 30 years!

Although the Community Credit Union is actually owned by its members, there are currently 3 team members that have 72 years of financial industry experience between them! As a financial cooperative, members of CCUSH are represented by a volunteer Board of Directors and members’ funds are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), which is the credit union version of what most folds are familiar with as the FDIC, which insures the banks.

CCUSH is currently located at 757 Redwood Drive in Garberville, and has recently decided to expand their building space, to provide more services to their members. They offer a full array of transactional financial services products for their members’ convenience and value. This includes lending (home and property purchases and refinances, business equipment and lines of credit, autos, RV’s, credit cards, and personal loans), as well as business and personal checking, savings, Money Market accounts, and term CDs. They have free online banking and bill pay services, and debit cards. Coming up late this summer they will be introducing MOBILE banking and this fall, they will enhance their mobile banking with remote deposit capture services. CCUSH are current members of the Co-Op ATM network so members who travel far and wide can find ATMs with no surcharges in over 30,000 locations nationwide, and in 117 countries! CCUSH has an ATM locator on their website which can be accessed at home or on your phone or tablet! Not only does this banking business offer a variety of services to their members, but they also provide financial education and credit counseling services for their personal and business members!

CCUSH is the original, locally owned and locally managed financial institution for their members in at least a 45 miles radius of our community.

Something you may not know about this business is that even though their official name is Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt, their area of service actually extends north to Ferndale and into Northern Mendocino County, to Laytonville. Because of their wide area of coverage, they are also well known as the “Community Credit Union”.
