Food for People’s Free Produce Markets Start This Week

This is a press release from Food for People:

This May, Food for People will be holding its free farmers’ market-style produce distribution, the “People’s Produce Market”, at the following locations:

·         10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8th at Garberville Presbyterian Church, located at 437 Maple Lane, in Garberville.

·         12:30 p.m. to 1:30p.m. on Tuesday, May 8th at Redway Baptist Church, located at 553 Redway Drive, in Redway.

·         11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16th at Fortuna Community Services, located at 2331 Rohnerville Road.

·         Noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 17th at the food bank, located at 307 W. 14th Street, in Eureka.

No appointments are necessary, and anyone who meets the income requirements is eligible. In addition to produce, the markets will also offer live music, free fruit and vegetable samples, cooking tips, and assistance with CalFresh (formerly food stamps). Several community organizations will also be present with information about their services. People are urged to bring their own bags to carry produce. What happened to the Southern Humboldt Community Park Calfresh Program? They are paid approx $48k per fiscal year to administer and provide food to the community thru the Humboldt County Calfresh Outreach Program. What are they doing with all that money?
