Autopsy Was Unable to Determine Whether Owner of Cannabis Extract Business Was Dead Before Semi Hit Him

Salvatore Riccobono

Salvatore Riccobono’s LinkedIn Profile photo

Multiple bullets ripped into Salvatore Riccobono, IV before he was struck by a semi on Hwy 101 near Salmon Creek on April 23. The bullets caused his death, according to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. However, she said, Riccobono’s body was “found to have injuries consistent with a motor vehicle accident also.”

But, at this time, Karges said that it is unknown whether the gunshot wounds caused his death before he was struck by the vehicle. It is also possible that he was still alive when struck. “We cannot determine if he was dead when he was hit,” she said. However, she added, “The truck driver said he was in the road and there wasn’t [any] movement.”

Riccobono’s 1998 Gold Infinity SUV and a 9mm pistol he was known to carry were missing after he was found dead and they were the subject of a search by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. On Friday midmorning, Karges said, “We found the vehicle thanks to a citizen’s tip.” It was located in Eureka in the area that is in the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction, she explained. No arrests have been made in connection with the vehicle.

Riccobono, who recently had been living in Humboldt County, was from the Concord area and was listed as living in nearby Albany when he attended Diablo Valley College from 2008-2010.

He is listed as having been arrested in Emeryville on December 4 of 2017 on a warrant related to narcotics possession. And on the 19th of April, 4 days before his death, Riccobono had been stopped by the California Highway Patrol near Garberville and issued a ticket for driving with an expired license and not wearing a seatbelt.

His LinkedIn account listed him as the owner of NorCal Extracts. (See photo above). A tweet from Norcalextracts in January of 2016 from Salvatore Riccobono states he is a lab technician and that he did CO2 extraction. The included photo shows an example of cannabis extract. See below.

That is the most godfather-esque pic I’ve seen in awhile, no offense to the deceased.

The pose was intended to convey “The Godfather” image. Unfortunately, he ran into someone who didn’t buy into the hype. My sympathies to his family, and to the driver of the big rig, they’re all innocent victims of the shooter.

Sal was my dear friend and one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met. We worked together, lived together, laughed together and I feel everyone on this thread should know that Sal was the type of guy to stop what he was doing to ensure people around him were ok. Incredibly brilliant and witty Sal just wanted to make a positive impact on his family, friends, and community. Apparently, only recently he must have got caught up with the wrong people. His attackers will see retribution…one way or another…mark my words.

I knew Sal from childhood and just woke up from a dream about him and googled him and found this. So strange and so sad. He was a dear friend from childhood and a kind soul. Shocked to see this was his end.

Norcal extracts is still going, it has a large legal extraction setup over in Shasta Lake. Great c02 but the pens from them suck. From what I gather the ones in charge now are the money people who helped him start this company.

There is a Nor Cal Nectar in Shasta Lake, but I don’t find any Nor Cal Extracts over there. Most hits for that are Sac.

Kym, im confused. Why does your headline say he owned a Cannabis extraction business? The article suggests he was a labtech, possibly as long ago as a year, at one.
And that picture is in someone’s kitchen.

Yeah, wow, talk about guilty laughter. Sorry to friends and family, but this is what is known as “overkill.” Mr. Tarantino; the script is ready. His tweet said “give me a shot” ?!? An autopsy report for the Ages. Can’t tell if multiple gunshot wounds or getting run over by a truck actually killed him. Definitely a suspicious death. Another chapter in Forensic Medical Review.

Does it even matter if he had a pulse when the truck struck him, what are they gonna do, charge the poor trucker and let the shooter off? I mean REALLY NOW someone please explain this?

It makes a difference whether the shooter is charged with murder or not. It is possible to argue that the cause of death was not the shooting therefore there is no murder. The uncertainty could lead to a lower charge or a defense.

So, this guy was shot and then his body dumped on the highway near the Salmon Creek exit where a semi ran him over? What a nightmare scenario. He was in the extract biz and someone felt such violence towards this guy that they murdered him and dumped him on the highway? Was he involved in a dope deal in Salmon Creek that got out of hand? It’s shocking and horrifying. I have never heard of anything quite so brutal in our community, ever. Shudder.

I dope deal gone bad in salmon creek. U think? No!??? Dam Sherlock ,your on to something! Brutal but nothing new…. the smart ones never talk and never expose a body. No body=no murder. Why do you think there’s so many “missing” people around here?????

34 people missing in 41 years? How terrifying. The Bulgarian mafia is going hard in the paint supplying their *santa claus laugh sound effect here* stroll. Like young white females could go missing at a rate 50% their African counterparts suffer without every door in the country being kicked down and the priority of every [edit] agency in United Stolen America. 🙄

I looked to the sky
Where an elephant’s eye
Was looking at me
From a bubblegum tree
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water
I walked through a field
That just wasn’t real
Where a hundred tin soldiers
Would shoot at my shoulder
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water
I climbed on the back of a giant albatross
Which flew through a crack in the cloud
To a place where happiness reigned all year round
Where music played ever so loudly
I started to fall
And suddenly woke
And the dew on the grass
It stuck to my coat
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water

sal would have loved this picture of him as his one and only introduction to the media. to much love in his eyes. loved company and hated being alone. always wanted to finish up with his pops. he was never the same after his mom passed when he was 17. he lived a full life . loved to travel. loved to take risks . never got angry or loud. great salesmen almost to good and the ladies loved him. got lost in the underworld . shadow people took his soul.

He was also very private with his life wouldn’t have wanted all the attention. He rather would have been the one to go around showing everyone what he accomplished. He liked real attention not media. Thank you for the kind words whoever you are. His family and I appreciate it.

Sal was one of the most sweetest souls I had ever met. I had the pleasure of working with Sal several years ago at a Solar company together. Sal lived on the wild side, but he was kind and funny. I’m very sad to hear about his passing. My love and condolences go to his family. I only knew him for a brief period of time, but it made a huge impact. I remember Sal telling me he lost his mother at a young age, which I can’t image dealing with. At least he is at peace with his mom💕 RIP Sal you will be missed.

Case was only investigated for a couple months, then detectives stopped answering phone calls and emails. Haven’t heard from them since. Almost coming up on two years. Sounds like someone gave them hush money, hopefully one day the people that did this will see their verdict…
