Dear Editor,
In early March, I wrote a letter to the editor about a theft at Casterlin School. Someone had broken in and stolen $3,000 in quarters from our Parent Organization, Friends of Casterlin School (FOCS). FOCS works tirelessly to benefit the school in many ways, and in reality the money was stolen from the students.

Initially, we were all devastated, hurt, and angry at the violation to our school. We were dismayed that someone would choose to steal from children.

However, shortly after submitting the letter, we started receiving phone calls, messages, and letters – and money. People from across the states heard about the theft and sent a contribution to us. A teacher created a Facebook donation page, and we received more donations there. All told, we have received almost double the amount stolen, and we are so humbled by this kindness and support. As one student said, “One person stole from us, but a hundred people paid us back.”

We at Casterlin School would like to thank all of you who have supported us with money, kind words, and sharing our story. There are a few bad apples out there, but this world still has many good hearts. Thank you!

Respectfully submitted by Jennifer Kubik, teacher

I’m glad, just don’t keep the money where Chad Allender can find it, cause I doubt trinity county will keep in jail for long. Probably longer than Humboldt though

They have him on video stealing fuel, so he better still be in jail. Oh wait! It’s Humboldt. He probably got out the next day……………….????

What an inspirational story!

When you are a parent, the care of your children is the job that never ends! Feed them, keep them safe, love them and always support and be proud of them! It’s the best part of your life.

Schools in Humboldt seem to be a target for thieves! Be alert, be cognizant, protect what you can and don’t be an easy victim.

Awesome ending to this story. Great spirit community, keep it up, and clean out the criminals that are around in the hills and in the towns. All need to pitch in and report unusual activity to police/sheriff.

Thanks to all!!

I want to congratulate Casterlin on two things. One, congrats on getting so many donations for the school! So good to see the community come together to right this wrong. Secondly, I want to congratulate you on being the only school I have ever seen that used actually accurate cougar tracks on their logo! Your sign is awesome. Too many schools who use the cougar as a logo use dog tracks because they think the tracks look better with claws. Your tracks are accurate and perfect! Congrats on being the first school I have ever seen who got it right! 🙂 Keep up the good work!
