These ‘Scared’ Cats Were ‘Dumped’ at the Vet and Need a ‘More Compassionate and Responsible Owner’

From the Humboldt County Animal Shelter:

I’m Faith and my sister is Hope. We were dumped at a vet and told that we have always been outside cats and owner is moving so they wanted us put down

🙁

A nice animal control officer brought us here to see if we can find a new life with a more compassionate and responsible owner. We are scared in the adoptable room, but when you pet us, you will find us to be quite appreciative.

Too bad the owner can’t be put down.

When I bought my current house on Fickle Hill, the seller said the cat was part of the deal. I kind of thought she was kidding, but when we met to sign the closing papers, she handed me the cat’s vet file. Ajax kept the kids involved and the mice away for a long time, and he didn’t have to move to Philadelphia.

As a child, I lived with a dog who “came with the house.” The previous owner had tried to move with the dog but the dog repeated went back to his old home. So when the place was renter out, the dog came with it. The owner would pay for the dog’s care but the rented did it. It worked out for all as the dog guarded the home and actually at one point “escorted” a burglar out.

I have a very old animal who needs lots of special care and worry about what would happen to her if I became unable to do it. Would euthanasia be the only option for her? Taking on responsibility for an animal can be hard but outside cats? That sounds like a person who morbidly afraid for themselves and is laying it on the cats because euthanasia is not cheap. A truly indifferent owner would have just abandoned them.

I understand that it is a tradition but the practice of allowing cats to free roam is bad for both cats and other wildlife. I hope someone builds this cat a catio.

Umm it’s not some random tradition. Their function and contribution to the
home is to find and kill rodents. They are great! I renovated a place on Fickle w rats in the walls and now only the neighbors that chase my cats away have rats. Ha ha ha!

Neither was slavery. Rodent problems are caused, and solved by properly storing food, garbage, and animal feed. Studies have shown that cat are more likly to kill native rodent than invasive rodents, and native rodents rarely inhabit our houses.

Cats kept indoors exclusively are almost always mentally ill. It’s cruel to knowingly do something to drive a sentient being insane. Let cats go outside. Try not to live in dangerous traffic if you have a cat. Provide cats indoor boxes that are cleaned regularly and they generally will use that instead of your neighbors garden.

Not at all. Cats do need enriched indoor environments and spaces like catios. Watch “the cat whisperer”.

If you are not willing to do this then dont own an exotic predator.
