Just in Time for Tourist Season, New Cannabis Shop Open on Humboldt Mendocino County Line

On Saturday, the One Log Tree Lounge opened in Cooks Valley near the Humboldt Mendocino County Line. The owners include Andrew Blap and Peter Huson the founders of Northern Nights Music Festival as well as Kevin Jodrey from Wonderland Nursery in Garberville.

“Our location gives us this ability to catch the tourists in a very effective manner and help educate them on what our region offers from a local perspective,” Jodrey told us. Plans for the site include a marijuana museum covering the story of the region from Redwoods to cannabis, a nursery, the cannabis shop, the current gift/coffee shop and, of course, the One Log House tourist attraction.

Jodrey explained that he hopes the small complex will become “a local starting point of all the things in our community that the public needs [to] see and do.”

He told us last January that the plan is to provide a directory to other interesting businesses in the region. He suggested everything from local wineries and breweries to the Avenue of the Giants to the Sequoia Zoo and, of course, local cannabis businesses.

Jodrey said he is speaking to other current cannabis storefronts. “I just hit up Chris Anderson who owns Redwood Roots* and the spot in Benbow where he is putting in a storefront, too. I talked about doing a competitors’ unite video to show how, even though we have competing interests, we work together collaboratively so the community can succeed.”

He explained, “[T]he tourists will benefit from that cohesive attitude. The world may be exclusive…but not here in Humboldt. We can be inclusive and welcoming and still keep our outlaw heritage intact.”

According to Jodrey, the dream behind the new complex located at the southern edge of Humboldt is to “do effective business and hopefully satisfy the customer’s needs but at the same time, further our region’s exposure and the exposure of our local farmers.”

Below is a video from Jodrey’s Instagram account.

Like any bar or cannabis biz you need to be 21 or older. Funny you ask since most peoples deal breaker was not letting teens have access, even 18-20 year olds.
All you haters better suck it up or leave, our economy is tanking and our best bet is tourism to keep going. If you want to see real yuppie asses and big corps just keep on hating. The guys who put on northern nights made a point to reach out and hear community concerns before they had their first event and as far as I know now live here.
Making money off the (ugh) hipsters from the bay is gonna be something we all have to swallow if we want our small businesses to survive.
Just seeing HSU shutting down the 3rd street gallery is bad omen, 10 years ago we could have had a fundraiser and kept it open ourselves. Theres barely a profit now after overhead and taxes with herb selling so cheap.

At least these guys sound like theyre trying to educate folks and support local businesses and attractions. People have been coming here to buy pot for 40 years. It could be a lot worse.
Local owners spend money locally, every cent kept local counts. Read about sustainable economics.

Its so telling that none of you complain about all the alcohol available in our county nor the vineyards that brought powdery white to all the crops here. Alcohol costs us all tons in tax money be it arrests, assaults, car accidents, etc. How much of those taxes stay local???

Speaking of taxes, its surprising you all wanna diss these guys while our county supes just approved $200,000 payment to monitor farms from space. WTF???

Blah. Alcohol is just as bad. And yeslthere are all kinds of shitty parents taking their kids into breweries.
Tourists of the 1000 year old redwoods should not be forcefed weed because of a few decades of outlaw culture.
Sorry kids

OMFG do we really need to have more loaded tourists from Iowa driving 5mph in their RV on the 101. Don’t we have enough crashes and horrible traffic as it is?

In the real world, I don’t expect Mr and Mrs America to buy much weed at the one tree house. This “business” will tank soon, guys!

I don’t think there is anything positive to say about selling drugs to tourists, and “promoting our beautiful county” by pushing substance use to the public.

If you like using drugs, you live in the right place! Alcohol, Meth and Heroin abuse is rampant in Humboldt, and anyone that thinks that smoking pot is not a gateway to altered states of consciousness is delusional. Vehicle crashes in Trinity/Humboldt/Mendo/Lake are usually caused by something, and we never hear the actual cause and culprit, do we? It’s not just from the deer!

On the positive side, I certainly hope everyone is enjoying the April snows in the North State, it WILL be warm soon!

Have a lovely day, and thanks for your service!

Meanwhile, pot is not medicine.

It’s your choice, take drugs, or live clean.

Using marijuana adds nothing, and wastes your life.

Life is a short affair, be more than another stoner.

You will thank me for this simple advice someday.

Suck it up, since you brought it up:

“The guys who put on northern nights made a point to reach out and hear community concerns before they had their first event and as far as I know now live here.”

Maybe read this:

https://kymkemp.com/2013/05/15/northern-nights-and-raver-lights/

Now they want to expand NNMF and I have not seen a community meeting scheduled. And what about the wildlife community that lives in and around the South Fork Eel River and cannot attend meetings or defend themselves? What has NNMF done for that community, i.e. threatened and endangered listed coho, chinook and steelhead salmon? I guess they’re expecting more people than last year with Reggae to follow and the river gets the leftovers:

https://www.mendocinocounty.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=20268

What is it exactly these festival’s “on the river” do to protect the health of the South Fork Eel River for its own sake; beside some murky sense of the greater good; greater good for who? The River and its community of wildlife habitat do not benefit or profit from this shared experience.

For a generation that doesn’t like to drink water from a plastic bottle, they sure don’t have a problem using plastic pool floaties. So much for being eco-friendly. This is a listed Wild & Scenic River, a living ecosystem, with threatened and endangered species, not a chlorinated public pool…

I think there should be a large meeting with as much wildlife that could be gathered as possible. Eddie voice from lake county could be the lead speaker and explain to the wildlife what is being proposed. no humans other than Eddie could attend (expect kim to report of coarse) and they could eat grass, honey comb, and wild berries.

As someone who is more intimate with the OneLog scene and Northern Nights then I’d like to admit, I can honestly tell ya’ll that all of those floaties (brought to our beautiful river by privileged Bay Area frat type kids) were promptly left, where they sat, wilting in the hot sun until they were swept up and discarded in the local landfill. This has happened year after year for 5 years (oh, my, has it been that long?) Never once has one public service announcement been made about it, nor any notification given on the website about pack it in, pack it out. How about no floaties. It’s a loader loser festival. It’s disgusting.

Well it’s never too late to get the word out and be proactive. None of this would be allowed or approved in a more populated area, out of sight out of mind. These concert/festivals aka Northern Nights and Reggae on the River have no accountability for their actions. And I just don’t blame the event itself, also the Counties that approve the event, without strict oversight, mitigation and compliance. Everything is complaint driven, they only rely of citizen monitoring. If they don’t receive a complaint, everything is AOK, nothing to see here!

I didn’t want to say anything; but Wonderland cuts are weak.. the moms pictured here look ok; what is happening between? Some kind of pH issue?? And yea, if there is mites, or any pest for that matter, people tend to over-bombard them, hense the telltale Wonderland Burn.

I’ll put in my 2cents: THE only way to have decent cuts is to have healthy moms, that have been on a stringent IPM protocol. Once u have decent cuts —5inch minimum!!! what is with the midget cuts that take weeks to rally??? No one has time for that!!!— I digress. Once they are in the tray there is a magic formula of pH monitering and adjustment throughout the rooting stage, in concert with an exact balance of moisture and air.

Guess they have yet to crack the code. 🙁

Congratulations. Now you can do both and really increase your odds of crashing. Strange thing to rejoice over but there you are. Because pot use does not replace alcohol use. It adds it’s own users to the alcohol users.

Besides the fact that the intoxicating properties of pot being long lasting enough that daily use means never sober, there is no group of people so in love with their drug as pot users. Ever check the comment volume or meeting attendance of non pot articles versus pot related ones ? Pot lovers pretty much rouse themselves for pot first and foremost. It’s scary. They are so unlikely to be as willing as casual alcohol users to accept pot use as responsible for anything bad.

Then why do the stats show an increase in fatal accidents? That pot is less destructive to the user is praised as a good thing is part and parcel of the ugliness involved. It is not all about those chosing to use it but their effects on everyone else.

And, from reading comments here, any scientific evaluation that includes something negative about pot will be dismissed by it’s users. Scientific research is not necessary to see the obvious negatives now and anyone mentioning them is shouted down.

Really? When have you seen the volumes of beer drinkers denying that beer is an intoxicant and calling it medicine? Pot either creates the delusion or allows the delusional to be happy with their delusions. The volume of the comments shows that yes, they do obsess about it to the point of irrationality fairly commonly.

Either way, it will not eliminate other problems but add to them.

“Beyond that, the two studies used different baselines for comparison. The IIHS report compared legalization states to their neighbors. The AJPH study, on the other hand, chose comparison states not based on geography but on other shared characteristics: traffic patterns, makeup of roadways and population.”

The study that found increases compared data from neighboring states. In the one that you cite, data sources were selected by the authors of the study. Unfortunately their criteria can not be judged without buying the study.

However the first article I gave was pretty straight forward increases just within the States involved. No picking and choosing. It’s hard to rationalize that away.

All this shit is halarious youtube kevin jodrey planting season and it should wrap up very quickly how shitty of a farmer and grower this guy truely is. He may grow weed but he doesnt know the first things about true farming. I know kids in there 20s that put this guys farming and growing knowledge to shame, the difference between a cornell graduate and a humboldt hipster. You want to see real farming knowledge spend a day with a real grower and farmer, first off real farmers dont cut clones and buy truckloads of shwaggy dirt. Head back to the east coast. Lol fucking smart pots and potting soil. Come see what plants look like in big inground holes, kevin grows shitty clones period. Where would this jokster be without artificial lights hahaa. A true farmer works with the sun and soil already existing on the property. Loser that succeeded i suppose. This guy wouldnt have a clue how to survive in a real business world with real players around him. He leaches off pur community and i can second that he sells terrible clones. A true disgrace for the humboldt genetics. His legal farm is a joke farms arent on top of mountains that have to be leveled and terraced to shit, farms are in river valleys usually on old or current flood Plains. True blow hard calls his farm eco friendly and fish friendly as he trucks in plastic and potting soil. For every 100 people in this business only 3 to 4 actually farm and grow stellar weed definitely not this east coaster. Ask anyone in the business and everytime they will say they grow the best weed, the people who grow the best weed know how tp farm many other fruits herbs and veggies i bet this ass hat hasnt even heard of a farmers almanac.

Kevin Jodrey is the parasite who landed in the right place at the right time for him. Sure he’s “nice and friendly”. But what he did to our community is terrible. How ridiculously farcistic that HE should have a museum of OUR history! Travellers will never understand and neither will newcomers. But locals who were here for all of it and paid attention know the real and soon-to-be-erased history. Jodrey got here in the 90s and began producing huge numbers of clones for huge grow operations. He says as much in a published interview. But what he sees as some heroic work most of us recognize as terrible. We wanted to stay DL (down low) and grow our smaller gardens just to be able to live here in paradise. We loved that many smaller scenes could thrive and feed our community. We saw the huge commercial operations not as allies but as the factor that would bring down the entire scene. Jodrey likes rich people and big money. He made a lot. He blew up his nursery in full sight while pushing his public agenda to “legalize” or whatever that thing was where the rich get richer, the corporations are invited to take over and the small families get run into the ground. This guy was a major pusher for the commercial and corporate takeover and he picked up a lot of useful idiots and enthusiastic idiots in his cause for witlessly destroying our community. Of course here in our moronic future we celebrate guys like this! I don’t. I saw him come in and I saw it all go down. Worse yet I saw what would happen from 15 years ago. Why was Wonderland- the distributor of russet and broad mites- never shut down? He pretended to be “medical” by lying through his teeth and scamming all the way. is that a hero? Why was he allowed to operate so openly and freely? Who is this guy really working for? Did you ever think about that? Greed and stupidity have destroyed our community. Those who grabbed all they could, increased water use during a historic drought, sprayed heavily with Eagle 20, Forbid and Avid then sold their “medical” weed to sick people, bulldozed huge flats and took advantage of workers- these are the people who have climbed to the top. And they now tell us that this is good and right. A county of haves and have-nots. I’m not a “failed grower” or whatever the explainers call the people who object. I’m just a guy who was here for the whole run and saw too much bullshit and greedy selfish behavior. I can’t celebrate this crap because it is not good or cool. Destroying the small guys to make another million? These are little Trump-like guys. That’s the Trump way! Mansions and hovels. Enjoy it Humboldt- You’ve earned it!

Egads Kim. I think its about TIME TO MODERATE. Personal attacks on someone directly maligning their character (without the demand for proof or the ability of that person to respond) should be an IMMEDIATE deletion. I thought that was not just internet courtesy, but the law. These comments are all from one mean nasty TROLL, under some rock, using several fake names. Just taking pleasure in causing trouble. Sheeesh. I think they are all jealous of anyone with good ideas or any measure of success. There is a demand for herb. We have a history of supplying that demand in the ‘Emerald Triangle’. We would be STUPID not to exploit that 50 year reputation! Colorado towns of similar size and location t Garberville have 4-5 cannabis dispensaries doing just fine. We could support that many in this neck of the woods and WE SHOULD. I want to see more ‘Emerald Triangle’ branded business’ and products coming out of this region. Go Go GO!

Lots of bellyaching about greed money outsiders. Never a thought about how to work through the issues.
Why is industry moving on the market? Greed, yours and thiers.
What would cause industry to abandon the market?
Lack of or no profitability.
The problem with ma and pa grower is they do not forecast past harvest.
Industry forecast years in advance develop a strategy and work towards it. Right now they are taking the market from you that’s their strategy and it’s working for them. Nothing else matters only taking the market from you. They see you as dumb uneducated dopers in the hills, no education in business, easily manipulated, to stoned to see it coming.
What recourse do you have?????
Flood the market and then flood the market and then flood it again when you thought weed was cheap and then flood it again to drive it even lower.
I know weeds your only game, you couldn’t possibly consider growing just to give it away for free to lower its value, you would have no future right? Well right now your future in weed is looking pretty bleak, so either bend over and take it. Or put on your boots and fight for what you think is yours.

It’s coming and the party is over. Maybe not like a freight train, but more like a slow moving crash and burn accident. Read about what’s happening to the surplus of weed to our North:

Read the whole article neighbors. This is our future.

…”
Duyck sent 60 pounds of pot to the auction block in December. He had adjusted his expectations downward: He hoped to see something in the ballpark of $400 a pound.

It sold for $100 a pound.

If your weed is subgrade you are out of the game. And even then…. Closing chapter and epilogue could get ugly.

Love the fact that cannabis businesses are expanding all over the United States. That’s an “in your face” prohibitionist losers. IN YOUR FACE!

Yeah, and at what cost. If Humboldt and Mendocino are great examples, i.e. degrading effects to local wildlife ecosystems, rivers, creeks and streams; then what is happening “all over the United States”?

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
