Snow Showers Reported Today From Whitethorn to Berry Summit

We’ve received a number of reports of snow this morning from Alderpoint on the east side of Southern Humboldt to Whitethorn on the west side of Southern Humboldt to Berry Summit on Hwy 299. Caltrans’ Quickmap shows snowplows on Hwy 36 as well as Hwy 299.

However, all roads are currently open and no chains are required in the Emerald Counties as of 7:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service in Eureka warns,

Rain, snow, and small hail expected through this evening. Snow levels are currently around 2,000 feet and will rise to 3,000 feet this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected through the day. The best chance for thunderstorms will be in the afternoon over the interior areas. Small hail is possible in the heavier showers. If driving on a hail covered road, ease off the gas pedal instead of using the brakes and avoid make any big steering adjustments. Slow down and turn on your headlights to increase your visibility in any precipitation. Slow down and check the latest road conditions at 1-800-GAS-ROAD before travelling. Please report hail or snow to the NWS on Facebook, twitter or by phone.
