Humboldt County Correctional Facility Re-Entry Fair Returns April 24-25

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

HCSO Humboldt County Sheriff's OfficeThe Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office award-winning Re-Entry Fair at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility returns April 24-25, 2018. The Re-Entry Fair is a two-day event committed to supporting re-entry concerns encountered by the currently incarcerated of Humboldt County.

On April 24, employers from throughout the county will speak with inmates about employment opportunities upon release from the facility. This face-to-face contact with employers encourages inmates to pursue opportunities for a better life in our community and enables the incarcerated to set healthy goals for re-entry.

The week prior to the Re-Entry Fair, the Employment Training Division and the Job Market will be working with inmates to practice interviewing techniques for a successful return to the workforce. Inmates will be able to use these acquired skills when speaking with employers at the fair.

On April 25, community service providers will meet with inmates and share materials connecting them with essential services available post-release. Some of these services include housing, food security, transportation, child welfare services, tribal services, education and more.

The Sheriff’s Office offers an exceptional approach to rehabilitation by providing vocational, educational, and treatment based programs to people currently incarcerated. The Correctional Facility’s Re-Entry Fair was the recipient of the 2018 California State Association of Counties’ (CSAC) Challenge Award for its innovative approach to reducing recidivism through community partnership. To learn more about the Re-Entry Fair, watch this short video produced by CSAC: https://youtu.be/4edccpm-bx0.

The Re-Entry Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. This event is not open to the community, but service providers and employers are welcome to participate. To register your business or organization for the fair, please contact Programs Coordinator Vanessa Vrtiak at (707) 441-5137.

Ridiculous waste of taxpayer’s money. Most will go back to lives of crime anyway. Agencies like these should spend their funds assisting those in the community who have a lot to offer and cannot find work. I have been out of work many times, for as long as a year, in Humboldt. Not a single agency helped me find employment. Ever.

The best thing for former inmates to do, to prevent becoming recidivists, or to not end up in real prisons, is get the fuck out of Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino. Hell, ALL of Northern CA is just a big drug picnic…

Humboldt County, and Northern CA, have far too many opportunities for dangerous, risky, and self-destructive behavior.

Please try to not do THAT again…

I did a double-take. It’s like the old “women’s suffrage” (right-to-vote) movement – haven’t they suffered enough?

Some of these folks “re-entering”society and want to be a productive member in the community is the opportunity they need, believe me its not easy getting out with a job waiting for your return. Granted if one wants to work there is jobs, Logging, retail,to name a few, so don’t complain about the process for these fellas wanting to get to work, its funny when one can get out and get a job in a week and pay bills and be self supporting, but those who have never had to rely on a fair to help them, can’t get off the couch and knock on doors looking for employment but whine theres no work,i am tired of hearing the whining, be lucky your in the USA where your not made to be productive.god bless the sheriffs mission, remember if only a few get the help its better then one, like i say” you can eat an elephant one bite at atime”amen

People are actually incarcerated in the Humboldt Jail? Who would have thought?
