Rescuers Continue Searching for Children Missing After Highway 1 Crash
Ongoing search efforts continued on 04-04-2018 which consisted of shoreline and aerial searches of the Mendocino County coastline.
These searches were unsuccessful in locating the missing children (Hannah Hart, DeVonte Hart and Sierra Hart) or physical evidence associated with this investigation.
The Search & Rescue operation consisted of 74 volunteer searchers and 10 law enforcement personnel.
The search area focused from the Noyo Harbor to the MacKerricher State Park based upon ocean current and drift pattern analysis conducted by the US Coast Guard. A further search was conducted at the crash site and also focused to the south of that location.
The following public safety agencies participated in the search operation:
Contra Costa County Search & Rescue
Bay Area Mountain Rescue
San Mateo County Search & Rescue
Marin County Search & Rescue
Sonoma County Search & Rescue
Lake County Search & Rescue
CAL ESAR
Mendocino County Search & Rescue
California Highway Patrol
Further large scale Search & Rescue operations are being postponed due to a pending weather event expected to bring heavy rain and winds to the Mendocino County coast for the next few days.
Searches of the Mendocino County coastline will continue with on-duty patrol deputies as calls for service allow until future Search & Rescue operations can be safely conducted after the conclusion of the weather event.
Information released on 04-04-2018 by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office incorrectly stated that Jennifer Hart and Sarah Hart were wearing a seat-belt during the incident.
Investigators from the California Highway Patrol MAIT team (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) determined Jennifer Hart and Sarah Hart were not wearing seat-belts during the incident. This determination was made during the MAIT team’s inspection of the vehicle.
Ongoing updates/photos will also be posted on the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office facebook page as information becomes available (https://www.facebook.com/MendocinoSheriff).

How do you know those children died? They could have run away, into the forest.
They don’t know. Earlier updates have explained that the CHP is searching as if the kids were NOT in the car and the sheriff & search and rescue are operating as if they were in the car. Many other agencies involved in their hometown as well.
Montanna,
That is exactly why this search is important.
Well this selfish social experiment sure ended tragically, so sad for the children that were forced to endure this charade.
The latest report said the parents were not wearing seat belts. That is a significant change.
The evidence does not show any intent and maybe purposeful intent. Maybe it will never be known what happened. So give your children a big hug and tell them how much you love them. Then have your children hug each other. My guess is that’s the only thing that will come from this.
Thats true. Intentional or not won’t bring anyone back. Best thing we can try and do is learn something from this.
I wonder if the biological families of the kids have heard of this outcome?
Maybe some strange weirdos came up upon them at the vista point rest. Everyone could have been outside the car looking around. And by gunpoint were told to get back in car Could be some weird local who doesn’t like seeing lesbians with black kids Maybe these said weirdos forced them to run off the cliff or else they would kill the three kids that are missing. There are enough weirdos and freaks around here that anything is possible. Look at all the missing people around here. I know this is a strange scenario but ya never know. Could be so many scenarios as to what happened. The three kids could be being used as slave labor or sex trafficking.
