Shooting and Shovel Bashing Lead to Two Being Transported Via Air Ambulances From Gualala

This is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

mendocino sheriff's cloth badgeOn Monday, March 26th at approximately 4:28 PM, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported gunshot victim who had been transported to the Redwood Coast Medical Services facility located in Gualala.

Responding deputies learned that there had been an altercation between neighbors in the 38000 block of South Highway 1 in Anchor Bay, which resulted in one subject being shot by the other. As the investigation continued, it was learned that during a dispute the two persons, Paul Palestrini 62 years of age, and Harry Miller 69 years of age were in a physical altercation, during which, Miller shot Palestrini in the torso and Palestrini struck Miller with a shovel.  The dispute was apparently over an easement on a shared driveway.

Both subjects received significant injuries and both were subsequently transported, via air ambulances, to a Sonoma County hospital where they are listed in stable condition. At this time the investigation is ongoing and it has not been determined if there was a primary aggressor of the incident.

Any persons with information about this incident are encouraged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 707-463-4086 or call the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 707-234-2100.

I think it was an defense shovel…but it might have had “evil” features on it , making it an assault shovel. Probley painted black and had thingies attached to it

Maybe it was one of those evil high capacity scoop shovels. In this day and age regular citizens should be limited to a simple small garden spade.

Thank heavens they don’t sell bump-handles for shovels here in California anymore, though I assume you can still drive to Nevada if you really want one..

When they’re out of the hospital, you will probably find them at the local pub laughing about it over a cold one!!

I have to question the moral character of some of these commentators.
This is some serious stuff and the comments are making fun and cracking wise.
Shame on all of you!

One or both of these people could die from a gunshot wound and being sliced and or bludgeoned by a shovel.
I allege one or both of these people should be charged with attempted murder or murder if one of these people succumbs to their injuries.
This is in no way something to be joking about.
My opinion.

There’s nothing funny about shovel violence, that’s why we need legislation to address this new threat that the founding fathers couldn’t possibly of foreseen.

I wonder if the last name of the man with the shovel is “Borden”? Maybe he got in the full 40 whacks. Whack! Whack! Whack!

1 report said there was no provocation, but that is VERY unlikely considering there was a restraining order on Palestrini for a preivious offense when he shoved Miller down, causing him to have his back broken!
