Arcata Summer Camp Leader-In-Training Program Enrollment Opens April 9

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Arcata, CA – The City of Arcata Parks & Recreation Division is thrilled to announce open enrollment for their upcoming Summer Camp Leader-In-Training Program beginning Monday, April 9.

The Leader-In-Training Summer Program gives teens ages 13-17 the opportunity to gain valuable real-life work experience. Participants in the program work directly with 4-14 year-old campers by assisting Recreation Camp Leaders with planning summer camp activities, field trips and more. The program is a great addition on college applications, gives teens a head start for a potential future job as a Recreation Camp Leader and qualifies as community service.

All Leaders-In-Training must be between 13-17 years of age and must be 13 years old by June 18. If a teen is a former Arcata Recreation Camper, they must be 13 years old by Fall 2018. Participants have the opportunity to select from 10 different summer camps to work from, and may choose the dates they would like to work.

Participation fees are $14 per week for Arcata residents, and $15 for non-residents. Participants enrolling in 5 or more weeks of the program qualify for a special offer where fees are $70 for Arcata residents, and $75 for non-residents. Fees include training and a t-shirt.

All new Leaders-In-Training must take part in a 20-minute informational interview on either Thursday, May 24, Wednesday, May 30, or Friday, June 1. Interviews will be scheduled at the time of registration. Mandatory trainings are essential for preparing program participants to work with youth and to develop leadership skills that will help them be successful throughout the summer. Trainings will be held Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pre-registration is required for this program and registration closes on Friday, June 1. Space is limited and early registration is recommended. To register, call the Arcata Recreation Division at 707-822-7091.
