6th Annual Take A Child Outside Day: Nature Exploration Event for Families, Teachers

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Meet lizards and snakes! Zoom in on pond water! Make a harmonograph drawing! Take a silent walk to a bird roost!

Take A Child Outside Day is a festival of fun outdoor exploration for kids and their caregivers. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 a wealth of local environmental educators will offer nature-based activities, games, and crafts along the Arcata Marsh’s 0.6 mile Log Pond Loop Trail (beginning at the Interpretive Center). Kids are invited to fill their “eco-passport” by adventuring along the trail with their adults and participating in these activities, returning it when complete for a nature-themed prize. Additionally, teachers and school staff are invited to attend and learn about field trips, in-class presentations, environment-themed curriculum and other opportunities for their students at each station. Meet representatives from local organizations offering environmental education resources in the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center and sample activities along the Log Pond Loop Trail. Activities and environmental education resources will be offered by Nature Joe’s, Sequoia Park Zoo, HSU Natural History Museum, Friends of the Arcata Marsh, Humboldt Bay National

Wildlife Refuge, Redwood Region Audubon Society, Schatz Energy Research Center, CivicSpark, Friends of the Dunes, SCRAP Humboldt, Watershed Stewards Program, HSU Aquatics Center, Redwood Chapter of Environmental Educators and Interpreters, and more! This free community event is sponsored by the North Coast CREEC Network, Friends of the Arcata Marsh, Redwood Science Project, and Humboldt State Natural History Museum.
