The City of Arcata Wants Your Help Planting Native Trees This Saturday

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

The City of Arcata and Watersheds Stewards Program are coordinating a volunteer work day at the Jacoby Creek/Gannon Slough Wildlife Area on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Native trees – red alder, and Sitka spruce – will be planted along the south side of Jacoby Creek.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at the Bayside Community Center, located at 2297 Jacoby Creek Road, and will be shuttled to the project site by City of Arcata staff. Please be sure to wear a long sleeve shirt, work pants and boots and bring rain gear and water. Gloves, tools, snacks and beverages will be provided.

The Jacoby Creek/Gannon Slough Wildlife Area is part of the larger Baylands restoration project, which is the open space between Highway 101 and Old Arcata Road that runs from Bayside Cutoff to Samoa Boulevard.

Arcata wants to plant trees for a change? But they’re not yet done cutting them all down!
Green Party, my ass! They should be called the Lumberjack Party.
