Woman Walking on Beach Robbed of Cell and Car Keys by Man

Press release from the  Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On March 8, 2018, at about 2:30 p.m., Humboldt County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Mad River Beach for the report of a robbery.

The female victim was reportedly walking her dog on the beach south of the Mad River Beach parking lot when she was approached by a man. The man shoved the victim to the ground, took her cell phone and car keys and fled east into the dunes. The victim walked to a nearby residence on Mad River Rd. and called for help. The victim was uninjured during the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies, with the help of the California Highway Patrol, searched the beach and dunes, but were unable to locate the suspect. A citizen walking on the beach found the victim’s stolen items and returned them to law enforcement.

The suspect is described as a possible transient man, with shoulder length gray hair and facial hair.

Anyone visiting Mad River Beach is asked to use caution. If you observe a man fitting this description or other suspicious behavior, report it to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.

I find it kind of weird that someone would take the chance of assaulting a person to steal a cell phone and car keys, only to leave them there. but with all the mental issues out there who knows. It’s a good thing this lady had a police officer close by to protect her from the assault…. wait,no again the cops merely responded to the call after the fact.

You’re thinking of a bodyguard, not a policeman.

One of the thoughts behind gun control is people don’t need guns to protect themselves because we have police. This is a prime example of how police do not protect you, they simply respond after the fact.

Guess it’s time for her to go online and get her CCW permit started. Too bad her dog didn’t bite him.

Sadly, I don’t go there anymore. I’ve had 2 cars broken into there – one in the beach parking lot, one in boat launch parking lot.

This really takes the cake, why would you ruin her feeling safe on one of our beautiful beaches. This makes me mad and makes me rethink my walking on many beaches, alone. Damn it!

Hi Ernie! (I saw you today!)
Yup, felt it near Petrolia. West of us, a 4.5 they’re saying now. Wow, surprised you felt it in Benbow.

I do and need to stop and always take it with me everywhere. After all I’m a girl with a dog too. What has been going on around here is truly frightening.

It does sound strange but then so does a lot of other things becoming more and more common. Soon little will be considered strange as we get used to a world where the switch has been made to those without self control being protected from those with self control rather than the reverse.

The beach areas are getting taken over by tweaks and drifters I guess it’s okay to find a beat up trailer and park it on the peninsula for an extended stay It’s getting trashed and cars get broken into when you walk the beach.
