[UPDATE Thursday] Ambulance Responding to a Logging Accident in Hydesville, According to Traffic on the Scanner

At approximately 8:08 a.m., dispatchers sent fire personnel and an ambulance to Hill Lane in Hydesville. Reportedly there had been a logging accident. The crews were requested to respond Code 3–the most urgent response.

A helicopter medevac response is being considered.

UPDATE 8:17 a.m.: According to scanner traffic, the victim has at least a broken femur–thigh bone.

UPDATE 8:22 a.m.: A helicopter is responding to the scene.

UPDATE 8:26 a.m.: The helicopter had an estimated time of arrival of roughly one hour. It was canceled and the patient will be transported by ground ambulance instead.

UPDATE 8:40 a.m.: The ambulance is on its way to the hospital.

UPDATE 8:46 a.m.: According to a report on the scanner, the patient is a 43-year-old 42-year-old male who was injured when a two to three foot diameter tree fell on his right femur. Reportedly, the patient’s “vitals are dropping drastically.” The ambulance is traveling Code 3.

UPDATE 8:50 a.m.: CPR in progress.

CPR for a broken femur!?!? Unless a femoral artery was severed? CPR means your dead…

I’m sorry but this mans family and friends may of been reading comments. Even if it may be the truth Of the matter, still please realize your comment isn’t very compassionate or necessary. It may be the truth but is some instances it’s best to have compassion and think before you post! Prayers to his Family and Friends in this difficult time.

The last thing I would be doing if a family or friend got seriously injured would be reading a news blog. Although I understand the care and compassion behind your statement, unfortunately it won’t do any good. Aholes will be aholes. Blessings to the family and friends of this logger. I hope he will be ok.

It may not have been just a femur fracture!N it may just be be the most obvious injury.

Shock is a huge issue with injuries like this…its not just the injury:( Pray this turned out… lost my husband to the woods in 91… almost lost a boyfriend feller couple years ago to right femoral shatter…among other injuries. Sigh

Isolated closed fractures of the femoral shaft can spill a unit of blood into the thigh all by themselves without any other injuries, but that alone is not enough to cause death. It’s akin to donating blood. There’s obviously more to this story but beyond this is mere speculation.
