Stormy Day at Elk Head

Stormy day Trinidad Ocean

Stormy Day [Photo by Jeffrey Schwartz]

Wind blowing, waves rumbling against rocks, the tangy smell of the sea—all part of the joy of visiting the ocean on a stormy day.  Photographer Jeffrey Schwartz took this photo last week at Elk Head near Trinidad when a friend took him for a hike between storms.

“It was my first time there,” Schwartz said. “We had to climb through mud, brush and trees (though he claimed it was a trail) to get to the spot. The wind was blowing and there was some light rain or ocean spray continually covering my lens.”

Schwartz explained that the “image is a panorama made from 5 separate images and stitched together.”

I know that spot, right above the blow hole. Back in the day there was an easy trail to get there, but a landslide took it out. That was when the current trail was cut into the brush… This picture was taking just off of the Elks Head trail, but not Elks Head. Elks Head is at the dead end of the trail. Love College Cove and the Elks Head trail.
