Fly Humboldt Loses Emily Jacobs

Press release from Fly Humboldt:

fly humboldtFly Humboldt announced today that Emily Jacobs, C.M. has accepted a position with Chrysalis Global Aviation as a member of their Aviation Practices Team. Jacobs joins Chrysalis Global Aviation after serving 16 years as an employee of the Humboldt County Aviation Division, most recently serving as its Program Coordinator.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Aviation Practice team at Chrysalis Global Aviation,” said Jacobs. “It’s a great opportunity to work with a team of professionals from across the country to provide high-quality services to airports large and small as they expand to meet the needs of airlines, vendors, and passengers. I appreciate the time I had at the County of Humboldt and the support I have received from the community and my colleagues in the Aviation Division.”

Jacobs joined the County of Humboldt as a temporary airport service worker in 2002 and quickly rose to the position of program coordinator. During this time, she received professional certifications from the American Association of Airport Executives and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She served as the Airport Security Coordinator, Certified Weather Observer, and oversaw airport operations.

In 2013, Jacobs became the airport’s lead in recruiting new air service and led the effort that resulted in the recent announcement of new nonstop service to Los Angeles International Airport.

Among her other accomplishments was the launch of the airports solar microgrid project, the Arts and Music in the Airport Program and securing a Small Community Air Service Development Grant to recruit new air service.

“Emily Jacobs was an invaluable part of Humboldt County Aviation. Her passion for aviation, dedication to her team, and entrepreneurial spirit will be missed. She played a critical role in the success of important projects from facility improvements to the new LAX service. I enjoyed working with her on air service recruitment and wish her the best as she advances her career,” said Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass.

“Emily’s departure will be a loss for our community, but we wish her well. The Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission has enjoyed working with her over many years,” said Film Commissioner Cassandra Hesseltine. “She was an invaluable community partner and helped film productions succeed in their travel experience to the redwood region.”

“Ms. Jacobs dedication to ensuring the safety and success of Humboldt County’s aviation infrastructure has been second to none,” said David Ravetti, former chair of the Humboldt Aviation Advisory Committee. “It has been a pleasure to assist her over the years and she will be sorely missed.”

Humboldt County employees are leaving as fast as they are getting hired by the County, particularly the Public Works Department. What is going on at Public Works……in charge of too much perhaps, overworked, underpaid, underappreciated???? I think a little of all of that.

Roads, airports, parks, engineering, motor pool, building maintenance…..not enough workers on staff and low pay.

Number one reason…..poor upper management with horrible communication skills between management and the folks who get the work done on the ground!!!

Yeah, not to mention the money that needs to go to retired workers, leaving little money to fix things that need fixing.

Now we only have Jody and Tom Matson aka Public Works running the airport. Good luck Humboldt County. You think the airport had problems before. It’s time we get an airport manager like most all countys have.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the 2015 grand jury report on religning the Aviation Division out of public works. And the changes in pension plans that removed some of the early retirement incentives while increasing the cost to employees.

Humboldt Co is not a generous employer in terms of salary but it used to have an extremely generous retirement plan. That, while CALPERS is still better than most retirements plans for thise that still have them, has become less generous.
