This immature Cooper’s Hawk sitting on utility lines is keeping its feathers fanned out to gather heat and has one talon drawn into its chest feathers to conserve heat, according to Ann Constantino, the photographer that took this photo at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

This is a bad pic, but I took it because I was unfamiliar with such a white hawk.

A raven was bothering it and it seemed just a bit smaller than the raven.

Could it have been an immature cooper as well?

I was not familiar with kites, after looking into them I don’t think so.

I took some screenshots from a video I took. If zoomed in there are some markers; gold chest, redish tail… would love an ID from better bird sleuths

Right after we pried its talons off one of our ducks cranium, we shot it with the camera. Be kind!

Nice photos I saw a red tail hawk carrying a big squirrel this was no small city squirrel unfortunately I did not get a picture of it there should be a Humboldt big book of birds book. Maybe Ann Constentino should make it for the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge a book with pictures that documents all the unique bird photos.
