As of 6:40 p.m., deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and an ambulance are struggling to get to the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Swains Flat off of Hwy 36. A traffic collision at 6:08 p.m. on Barber Shop Lane knocked down power lines and these temporarily kept law enforcement and the ambulance from reaching the side of the victim.

Meanwhile, other emergency personnel are setting up a landing zone for a medical helicopter off of Hwy 36 at mile marker 16.24.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: A coroner had been requested. The helicopter has been canceled.
