Suspect Arrested in Mill Creek Cinema Robbery Just Minutes After It Was Reported

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Andrew John SchwartzSheriff Deputies arrested the suspect of a robbery in McKinleyville just minutes after it was reported.

On Jan. 26, 2018 around 1:18 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a report from an employee at the Mill Creek Cinema in McKinleyville that a robbery had just occurred.
The employee told dispatchers that the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Andrew John Schwartz, had given the employee a note demanding money and indicating that he had a firearm. Schwartz fled eastbound on School Rd. with cash from the business and entered Ray’s Food Place.

Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate Schwartz as he exited Ray’s Food Place in possession of items from the store. When a deputy attempted to make contact with Schwartz, he fled on foot. Schwartz attempted to gain access inside a bystander’s van at a nearby gas station, and when unsuccessful, continued to flee. The California Highway Patrol responded to assist the deputy with the pursuit.

Schwartz was arrested shortly after and was not found to be in possession of a firearm. He was booked on charges of robbery, shoplifting, obstructing/resisting a peace officer and violation of probation.

In total, it took just 13 minutes from the report of the robbery to Schwartz’s arrest. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office commends the communications dispatcher, deputy and employee involved for their quick actions in reporting and apprehending the suspect.

Really? You don’t think that maybe, just maybe, a deputy was already nearby when the call went out? In which case it would mean that it’s simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time, not something so amazing as, say for instance, a deputy goes beyond the call of duty investigating a crime he is determined to solve and by golly he did just that and nabbed the criminal so the streets are safe once again. Now that would be amazing. You know the fact that a HCSO deputy actually investigated a crime.

My daughter and I witnessed him running in back of the gas station and briefly tried to climb the chain link fence behind it. Police drove through the grass to get back there and he was essentially trapped. He relented pretty easily, just stopped. Then more police came from the 101. I do think the first police must have been nearby already.

That would be a great event for stings and just good old fashioned rooting out bad guys. BL needs dogs run over it twice a day to root out the druggies.
