[UPDATE 9:47 p.m.] VW on Fire Closes Hwy 101 Near Piercy; Traffic Backed Up to Richardson Grove
A VW bug caught on fire around 5:48 p.m. on Hwy 101 near Piercy. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. According to Tiana Goldsmith, who works in Cooks Valley, “The traffic is backed up all the way to Richardson’s [G]rove.”
UPDATE 7:20 p.m.: Tiana Goldsmith tells us that the traffic is moving slowly through Cooks Valley. “It appears they’re doing one lane at a time,” she told us.

[edit] The driver got the car off the road again against all odds insuring no collioson.
The bug was on fire for over 2 hours on the shoulder.
it was a fat chick beetle though, so you know, not as MUCH of a loss. :p
I know that term refers to more recent VW bugs but don’t you wince when using that term? I suspect it will be as obsolete in 20 years as the term we used to use for Brazil nuts when I was a kid.
Sad when any old Bug dies. A simple car that you could fix in the driveway without any special tools.
