Snow is coming to the interior of Humboldt, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka. They predict snow levels will start to fall on Thursday and reach as low as 2500 feet on Friday morning.

Several highways are expected to be impacted. These include 36, 199, and 299. Five inches of snow is predicted to stick at around 2500 feet (Berry Summit is about 2800 feet) so please be prepared.

“Before travelling, check the latest road conditions and be prepared by carrying chains, etc.,” reports the Weather Service on its Facebook page. “Allow extra time to get to your destination and slow down!”

There may not be a problem with snow on US 199 as the highest elevation (at the Collier Tunnel) is 2,000. So this may be the best route to use getting to I-5.
