Price of National Forest Visitor Maps to Increase

Press release from Six Rivers National Forest:

The price of all national forest visitor maps will increase on Jan 1. Current prices are $10 for plastic-coated maps and $9 for paper maps. The new price for both will be $14 each.

The decision for the price increase was made by the national office in Washington, D.C. in October 2017. This is the first increase in map prices since 2007. The cost of production, printing and distribution of the maps has increased significantly in the last 11 years.

The Six Rivers National Forest carries maps for Northern California national forests, including: Six Rivers, Klamath, Mendocino, Shasta-Trinity, Modoc and Lassen. Wilderness maps include the Trinity Alps, Marble Mountain & Russian, Yolla Bolla-Middle Eel, Mt. Shasta & Castle Crags and Siskiyou. These maps are available in the Supervisor’s Office in Eureka as well as the ranger stations in Gasquet, Orleans, Willow Creek and Mad River.

All national forest maps are also available for purchase online from the Forest Service at the National Forest Map Store, http://www.nationalforestmapstore.com. Most printed maps are also available digitally through Avenza Map Store for $4.99 per side, http://www.avenza.com/pdf-maps/store.

The U.S. Forest Service is dedicated to researching, producing and distributing informative, accurate maps that can help improve the experience on America’s national forests and grasslands. Additional online resources that may help users enjoy the great outdoors:

It’s worth checking into isn’t it?
State’s send their bulk to DC, then DC sends back a portion, minus the overhead costs for accounting, handling and miscellaneous. Some estimates say that the state loses approx 40% in paperwork alone. Worth investigating I think.
It seems only logical that all income, whether state or federal, is handled the same way. This is worth researching, imo.
Critical thinkers might also journey down the rabbit hole with inquisitive nature. Just for kicks, lets get this started:
Has anyone broken down the expenses of handling, accounting and misc?
What exactly are the misc?
What percentage of income does the average business owner pay their accountants, communications, and misc?
Do they compare?
Why is one exceedingly higher than the other?
Carry on.
