Eureka Man Sentenced for Hash Lab that Exploded in January, Three Separate DUIs From 2015 and 2016
This is a press release from the Office of the District Attorney:
Today, Judge Dale Reinholtsen sentenced William Edwards Woods III, 34 years-old from Eureka, to 7 years for manufacturing concentrated cannabis using a volatile substance (a felony violation under Cal. Health & Safety Code section 11362.3a(6)), and an additional 8 months for unlawful marijuana cultivation resulting in violation of Fish and Game Code section 1602, which prohibits unlawful water diversion and obstructions of California’s streams (Cal. Health & Safety Code section 11358(d)(3)(D). In addition, the court sentenced Mr. Woods on three separate DUI cases from 2015 and 2016 to an additional 360 days in jail and 5 years of probation, along with a 30-month DUI program and registration as a habitual traffic offender.
On January 25, 2017, the Humboldt Bay Fire Department, Humboldt County Drug Task Force (“DTF”), and Humboldt County Arson Task Force, investigated a butane hash oil (“BHO”) explosion at Mr. Woods’ residence located at 3473 Middlefield Lane in Eureka. There, investigators discovered a commercial-scale, closed-loop BHO system, which included a large butane tank, five BHO ovens, over 400 pounds of marijuana shake, and 10.5 pounds of finished concentrated cannabis. Mr. Woods fled immediately after the explosion, leaving a witness burned by the explosion to drive himself to the hospital.
On August 3, 2017, Humboldt County Sheriff Deputies arrested Mr. Woods while serving a search warrant at an unlawful marijuana cultivation site in Burr Valley. Members of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Watershed Enforcement Team discovered several violations of the Fish and Game Code at the cultivation site, including substantial water diversions, water pollution, and littering near a stream.
Deputy District Attorney Adrian Kamada, who prosecuted the cases, stated, “I appreciate the victim’s cooperation in the prosecution in Mr. Wood’s BHO case, and wish him continued success with his recovery. I also wish to recognize District Attorney Investigator Marvin Kirkpatrick, Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Chris Emmons, DTF Special Agent Tim Dias, and the Environmental Division of the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services for their work in dismantling and removing the dangerous BHO system from the residential neighborhood.”

Don’t mind legal marijuana operations, but finally a sentence that sends a message to illegal ones. Still don’t understand how DUI manslaughter, robbery and burglary charges in this county get a lot less sentence than 7yr. ??? In relationship to this, Marcy Kitchen should get a minimum of 40 years. Good job, judge. Maybe there’s hope??? (not holding my breath) Just saw Loco has him at 3 yr. 8 mo. and 290 days served credit. ?????
Oh this poor man is just a victim of the system he’s just trying to earn a living and an unfortunate accident happened ,and he shouldn’t be held responsible for his actions I mean alcohol is no worse than smoking weed right. This is just unjust!
Is that better you “trolling” hypocrites?
Lost coast outpost is missing their troll. Please leave, your comments are never smart or interesting.
Thank you, Emily!
Or not.
Only another dumb ass right wing bass turd would support that loser.
Did I read the story correctly? A Humboldt judge sentenced someone to prison? Can’t be. I’ll have to re-read the article.
Loco says he will serve only 3yr 8mo in Humboldt. ???
Haha, obviously he didn’t have Marcy’s lawyer.
Making or producing weed in humboldt is a crime. Stealing it is not. PS. What’s with the neck beard?
Must be a typo.
Good riddance
Wish they would bust a few meth labs the root of all evil.
Humboldt does not produce much meth. We are an importer. Most comes from Mex or China these days.
How much is not much? Open your eyes and nose!!! I call BS!
Hahaha hahahahahaha, it’s great to start the day with a laugh. Meth is produced in all 50 states and in almost every single city in America has atleast one cook. It’s much easier to cook than smuggle internationally but if it helps you sleep at night then go ahead and pretend it doesn’t happen on your block.
He will be out 3 years 8 months.
Pretty soon he’ll be tatted up and down. That sentence gonna seem like a long time at first, even at his age
You know this blog’s content is almost identical to Lost Coast Outpost, right? Both blogs are too lazy and uninspired to come up with anything other than the latest arrests. BORING!
Excellent! Then you will be leaving and not coming back! Bon Voyage!!
The losers who voted for The Mango Mussolini Chump trump are the real traitors.
Yep, next stop long term disability, chop, chop, time to get a job whinners
This is exactly the kind of scum illegal weed attracts. Hopefully legalization and plummeting prices will drive the dopers elsewhere.
Wow 7 years for butane extraction. Yet three DUI’s at 4 months each. Screw you government..Now you know why I carry a gun in my car, you let every damn drunk drive and actually keep permitting them too. You are the danger and negligence also.. the roads are so damn dangerous without extra help from drunks or cops doing the wrong things. Can we do better? Has anyone lost a child to a drunk driver? I’m sure there are people out there, and hoping they add their comments. Peace everyone.
How much time did Mark Wheatley do for his multiple DUI arrests? None, right? Does still being on the Arcata City Council somehow constitute a particularly cruel form of imprisonment?
Humbolt finally stepping up. Good direction, now EPD and sheriffs need to purchase the new breathalyzer for Thc related DUI. Keep up the great work.
Thank You BHOGart for another of Your products blowing up.
It’s really amazing to FINALLY see a punishment that fits the crime. In a county where pounds of heroin can equal 2 hours in booking then released, I am so happy to see a criminal held accountable for endangering others.
Are you serious? Did that actually happen? Someone in Humboldt was arrested with pounds of heroin & then released 2 hours later (that would be one helluva quick bail hearing). Do you have a link to that story? I’d love to read it.
More likely though is that you just made that up out of whole cloth as an excuse to hate on Humboldt County. ☔️
Kym, I have a suggestion.
Maybe you should question some of these claims which are being made on your blog for the apparent sole purpose of trashing Humboldt County. 🗑 Or, if you don’t mind, I would like to stand up for the people of Humboldt County against all the Republican haters. 🐘
I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt any law enforcement agency in Humboldt County would set a person in possession of several pounds of heroin free after only 2 hours. But, if I’m wrong, feel free to prove it. Let’s read that story. 🦃
I do question some. I’d love to have help on others. Sadly in this case, I’m not sure it was 2 hours but I know the case they are referring to–it was less than 24 hours.
Look it up yourself. It happened. Maybe not 2 hours but definitely 12 hours at most. They were “mistakenly” allowed to bail out. Yeah. If you were a local paying attention then you would remember this outrage. Happened within the last 3 years and is still fresh on everybody’s mind. If it was an isolated case that would be one thing…But combined with many, many more cases of ineptitude and very relaxed prosecution for serious crimes it makes our county look terrible. I used to think it was Gallegos. But terrible as he was there seems to be some institutional momentum against meting out justice here- perhaps a holdover from the Gold Rush days and the Indian slaughters? it’s weird. And unsafe!
1st of all, I am a local (whatever that means) and have never heard of this story until it was referenced on this blog.
“…still fresh on everybody’s mind…”
??? 🤔 Apparently not.
You know, a lot has happened during the past 3 years…
“Locally”, nationally, internationally… 🐪
And you say it was a mistake, right?
Well there you go.
Mistakes happen.
Did anyone die?
I love it make more excuses for the community. What is wrong with this picture. Yeah we’re locals, if you care about what’s going on around you step up and at least help get it right.
“Make more excuses for the community”?
What does that mean, exactly?
And again, what do you mean by “locals”?
It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard someone use the word “local” instead of what they really mean: OLD WHITE DUDE.
So if you mean Old White Dude by “local”, then I guess I may not be a local after all!

BudI remember the article the man had an address in the city of fortuna ,so they released him on his own recognizance after two hours in jail he had two pounds of suspected heroin at the time of his arrest ,and they released him ,and he split for Mexico never to be seen again he was a Mexican national prime example of the cops should have checked his immigration status before releasing him his address was the trailer park behind Johnny’s Cook House in Fortuna we’re it is Little Tijuana there if ICE rolled threw there all the trailers would be empty .Now we have another Mexican national in jail for shooting s cop . Just saying.
Just saying you are a racist.
