Deputies Talk Man Into Putting Down Rifle
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 around 6:30 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1800 block of Holly Drive in McKinleyville for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival the suspect, 27-year-old Neil McKinnon Jr., ran inside the residence and retrieved a rifle.
The sheriff’s deputies requested McKinnon Jr. to put the weapon down. McKinnon Jr. eventually complied with the deputies and put down the rifle. He was then taken into custody without further incident. McKinnon was arrested on the following charges: assault and battery, elder/dependent adult cruelty and threats to commit a crime.

My goodness, I hope no more deputies are shot…
In almost no other place in California would a threat like this not be met with deadly force. I can’t think of anything stupider than holding a firearm while engaged in an encounter with LEO’s.
For god’s sake, put down that gun before you are shot! LEO’s are armed for a reason!
Takes a bravery to do what these officers did. Glad this man came to his senses and complied with the officers.
