HCSO Hires New Public Information Specialist

Sheriff Billy Honsal is pleased to announce that the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has hired Samantha Karges as their new Public Information Specialist. This will be a civilian position that will work to get timely and factual information out to the community and news media. Samantha graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication from Concordia University Chicago. She moved to Humboldt County to pursue a career in journalism, working as an anchor, reporter and producer for KIEM-TV in Eureka. Most recently, Samantha has been working as the Media and Publications Coordinator, as well as the Anti-Human Trafficking Education Director at Faith Center Foursquare Church in Eureka.
Samantha’s education and experience with all forms of media has prepared her for this role serving Humboldt County. She is looking forward to helping the Sheriff’s Office further its dedication to transparency with the community. Samantha is a champion of human rights and is dedicated to helping the marginalized. In her free time she enjoys volunteering at her church, playing soccer and hiking with her husband.
