Two on Motorcycle Steal Idling Truck in Fortuna

Black chevy Silvarado http://www.motortopia.com/cars/2002-chevrolet-silverado-27633

This is not the actual vehicle. It is a 2002 Chevy Silverado.

This morning about 7:15, a black 2002 Chevy Silverado was idling in the 2000 block of Shamrock Drive in Fortuna when, according to a report broadcast by the authority of the Fortuna Police Department, two men on a motorcycle (possibly a Yamaha) drove onto the property of the Silverado’s owner. One hopped off the bike and into the truck. Then they both left headed westbound on Shamrock.

Below is the BOLO broadcast.

Audio Provided by Broadcastify

The Silverado’s license plate is 6T66310. The two thieves were wearing black helmets and clothing.

If you have any information, please call the Fortuna Police Department at (707) 725-7550.

Like the report questioning the County’s sale of deceased individuals property? The two sites do things a bit differently but that means both are worth checking.

THat sucks! I warm my wife’s car each morning while she gets ready for work. I sit at a side door hoping to bop someone in the head for that exact reason. Hope the truck gets returned.

Four ways to be idle-free:

Turn off your ignition if you’re waiting more than 10 seconds. Contrary to popular belief, restarting your car does not burn more fuel than leaving it idling. In fact, idling for just 10 seconds wastes more gas than restarting the engine.
Warm up your engine by driving it, not by idling. Today’s electronic engines do not need to warm up, even in winter. The best way to warm the engine is by easing into your drive and avoiding excessive engine revving. After just a few seconds, your vehicle is safe to drive. The vehicle’s engine warms twice as quickly when driven.
Warm up the cabin interior by driving, not idling. Easing into your drive is also the best way to get your vehicle’s heating system delivering warmer air faster. Sitting in an idling car means you are breathing in more of the dirty exhaust that leaks into the car cabin. Any warmth you may get from a car heater is not worth the damage to your health. If parked and waiting, it is healthier to get out of your car and go inside a store or building.
Protect your car engine by idling less. Frequent restarts are no longer hard on a car’s engine and battery. The added wear (which amounts to no more than $10 a year) is much less costly than the cost of wasted fuel (which can add up to $70-650 a year, depending on fuel prices, idling habits and vehicle type). Idling actually increases overall engine wear by causing the car to operate for longer than necessary.

The above is a quote from an interweb article about idling vehicles. I did not write it, I just copied it for your pleasure.

It seems nearly all the stole vehical in our area are stolen while idling but this is rarely reported, maybe because some consider it “victim blaming”. I think it is important for us to know that leaving your vehical running, unattended, is not a safe move.

Warming up vehicle?, This is the 21st century, if you have a vehicle from the last 3 decades there is no reason for this archaic practice of wasting fuel. It takes virtually no time to ‘warm up’ a vehicle.

Actually, warming your vehicle before driving is recommended by the manufacture. It prevents unnecessary wear on bearings and rings.

But don't just hop on the highway.

It’s recommended to drive gently to warm it up faster. Idling newer diesels, and maybe fuel injected gas engines, don’t make much heat.

Which ones reccomend this practice ? In this area the temps rarely go so low that they meet the reccomendations of the producers. Infact many states and cities have past laws making this illegal.

I don’t ‘warm’ mine up for the reasons you’re thinking of. I let mine idol to defrost windows. It usually takes about four or five minutes on most winter mornings to do the job or a bit longer for the frozen mornings. Like someone else mentioned, I use my extra set to do it so I can lock the doors.

Well with hour meters now in most ecms and oil change monitors , people should realise that for every 20 minutes idle time producers count it as a mile driven if rigs have excessive idle times dealers can refuse to warrenty engine problems due to lack of proper oil changes. Idleing most new rigs is harder on wear componets then drive time . Keep that in mind.

We have a keyless entry car. Fortunately, I can start it from inside my house & (it’s still locked) leave it without worry, as Even if unlocked, you can’t drive it away without having the key on your person.

I Notice car almost daily around Fortuna, left idling and unlocked, or window down. Obviously, the crooks are noticing the same thing. As winter approaches, and morning/nights get colder, more folks “warm up” their cars, before heading off to work/school, etc. gotta get those windows un-fogged to see! Make sure you leave your car doors locked!

I doubt this was a crime of opportunity. The criminals probably saw the iding truck on previous days and decided to take it that day.

Fortuna could put up 24 hr. video feeds 101 at Kenmar & Main on ramps, Rohnerville Rd at Drake Hill and the road going over the hill to Hookton Rd. The only ways in and out and police station could see any vehicles leaving the Fortuna area. Also a couple strategic spots in town would help. That could eliminate certain possibilities of where criminals went.

Yeah and then they can put cameras out front of all of our houses and we can tell them exactly why we are leaving and everyone will be safe and happy. Good idea

This is not how we are supposed to live! We should be able to leave our cars running in our own driveways. We should be able to let our kids go to movies alone. We should be able to leave our homes unlocked. Go to the bank, the grocery store, the post office without being harassed. Why do we continue to put up with this crap?

Yes , bring it on goverment control….. how about people just take responsibility for their actions. Dont be a thief , and dont tempt thiefs with stupid actions . No one is responsible for your safety but you. If you arent safe , it is your fault. Pretty simple.

Idling vehicles release tremendous amounts of pollution into the atmosphere. Have you ever heard of GLOBAL WARMING? You can google, “how much carbon do idling vehicles release into the atmosphere”, and you will see numerous sites with information about this. Letting your vehicle run while you are not in it, is an extremely BAD thing to do. Please educate yourself and help to reduce the effects of Climate Change/Global Warming. It is coming to a place near you (actually it is already here… right where you live}. Never let your vehicle idle for more than a few minutes. If you are stopped at road construction, TURN OFF your rig. During the road repairs near Legget, this summer, most of the mile long lines of waiting vehicles would leave their vehicles running. That would be pick-ups, big rigs, sedans, diesel pickups…whatever, idling for as much as half an hour. Do you realize how much pollution that added to our planet’s atmosphere? Turn off your engine and you will save on pollution, prevent extra wear and tear on the vehicles engine, you will save $$$$$$$$$ on fuel…AND maybe your rig will not be heisted! It’s common sense and a no brainer.
This is for Gazoo and the other idlers out there, not Dan. By the way Dan, I worked very hard to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar…please correct me where I have failed…lol

Why, oh why is there always at least one idiot who has to be a MOUTH and talk a bunch of bull that has nothing to do with the story on which they are commenting on? This article is about the fact that two idiot thieves on a motorcycle stole someones truck. No where in the article did I read any thing about it being about pollution.

Ok, I’m not going to call anyone a fool on here but making this a global issue of exhaust is ridiculous. Somebody stole someone’s truck. The thief is the bad guy. I can’t believe someone would start talking about emissions and stuff like that. [edit] If I want to warm my car up in the morning to defrost it or just have the heater warm That’s My Prerogative. That doesn’t mean someone should steal my vehicle. I do lock mine when I do it but I still am nervous that some fool will steal my vehicle. But the exhaust issue. Get a life.
