Press release from the Golden Tarp Awards:

The Ganjier, the cannabis industry’s widely respected platform for advice andinformation on specializations such as cannabis cultivation, law, manufacturing, branding and marketing, announced the call for entry for the fourth annual Golden Tarp Awards. The competition will take place Saturday, November 18th, at The Mateel Community Center in Humboldt County, and will feature, for the first time ever, a multi-camera feed live-streaming broadcast of cannabis competition judging. Flower entries, due by October 26th, are being accepted at drop-off locations throughout Northern and Central California.

The Golden Tarp Awards is California’s premiere light deprivation cannabis competition respected for its exceptional testing standards. Light deprivation, aka ‘light dep’, is the process of forcing plants to flower with sunlight in a time of year that is not normally the flowering period of the sun’s natural lighting cycle. The result is exceptional quality cannabis with high cannabinoid and terpene levels within a shorter time frame outdoors. Consumers benefit from the nutrient-richness of using natural sun and soil, and producers benefit from more yields a year. It’s also less expensive than indoor cultivation.

Humboldt County lies within the depths of the Emerald Triangle, behind the redwood curtain of Northern California’s rainforest. Known to most as the epicenter of outdoor cannabis production, this incredibly lush world of misty groves, offbeat towns and protected wildlife, is the heartbeat of the cannabis industry. The livestreaming will enable cannabis enthusiasts and cultivators from around the world to learn directly from experts from the comfort of their phones.

“We created the Golden Tarp to recognize producers who grow phenomenal light dep cannabis flowers and have developed best practices for healthy, quality cannabis for generations,” said Kevin Jodrey, Cultivation Director of Wonderland Nursery, and co-founder of The Ganjier. “Our goal is to recognize these farmers while introducing consumers to the importance and benefits of light dep cannabis grown outdoors with sunlight and healthy nutrient-dense soil that is free of chemicals, pesticides and pollutants.”

Every entry is first lab tested to ensure safety and consistency, under strict guidelines that also recognizes biodynamic farming methods. Flowers are then entered into a flavor category: fruity, floral, earth or fuel. Judges will ultimately review the top four entries from each flavor category, selected by highest total cannabinoid content and grouped by terpene expression. Read more about how to enter the Golden Tarp here.

did you not look at the aerial photos I posted from 1949. historically the trees lining the creeks in the redwoods were so tall no direct light ever hit water. some tree felling of the biggest trees even occurred over simple bar bets, like the largest one in Fieldbrook. good times.

“…recognizes biodynamic farming methods…” The greenhouse picture sure is not biodynamic farming with the bags of soil.

Light dep was in three months ago. Why not have this at that time? No one is celebrating light dep now.

Hardly anyone is celebrating Growers at this point. Even growers that I talk to are disgusted with the scene.

I listen to some assholes industrial fans all the time. On the edge of town. 9 greenhouses. Catwork for months on end. Oh, the owner, he doesn’t have to listen to it, lives somewhere else. Doesn’t follow the ordinance about no light escaping from sunset to sunrise.
Really, growers have such a bad name in Sohum at this point that I just shake my head at these “Award” events. Not to mention the fact that there’s no way of a grower proving that they actually grew the bud they are entering. ( hint- people entering and winning with other people’s buds they had access to. Yes, it’s happened)

Yeah like last years winner “dookie brothers” I think… I know that he entered indoor sherbet and called it dep and won. Please tell me why the hell they are doing a dep competition towards the end of November… is it a greenhouse weed comp? Golden tarp… if your harvesting, drying, and trimming weed you wouldn’t have to pull a tarp once to get it to finish that late.

There is no biodynamic weed. Fake news. The guy who won last year is this guy, the guy who sells clones with mildew and mites. Self serving bullshit from snowflake pot growers. In unison, let’s all reach back and pat ourselves on the back. Yay! We’re good!

Yah, I wondered about that. When the sun shines, and what about the stars? When we were kids, we just did one. The moon was bright too. I used to stub my big toes all the time too. And well I need to find something to eat. Damn, that was some good shit…

So all the competitors are legally permitted correct?
Screw the promoters if not…
Regardless your event will flop..like last yr..obselete..no one wants to hear some east coast transplants talk over all the $$$ they spent to advertise their expertise and become “ganjiers”no one cares anymore. If these gurus truly gave a f#$k they would have fought all this humco legislation , in order to produce higher environmental standards, and preserve the mom n pop non industrial growers. Instead they became industrial gurus, and simultaneously destroyed the local economy and local buisness network supported by small batch biodynamic farmers. You saved only yourselves..Thanks wonderland.

How can you hang lights with power in a non engineered structure and not up to electrical code. Crazy….. really bad example to use.
