No Varsity Football Game for Eureka High School’s Homecoming Week (October 16-21)

This is a press release from Eureka City Schools:

The 2017 Eureka High School (EHS) homecoming week is October 16-21, 2017. This year’s theme is “EHS Hits the City.” Homecoming activities include float building, spirit dress up days, parade, bonfire rally, many athletic games, a dance, as well as the induction of EHS Alumni into the EHS Hall of Fame.

Due to McKinleyville High School’s varsity football program cancelling the remainder of their games, we have been left without a varsity football game for our homecoming. The Eureka High School Athletic Department attempted to fill this gap by reaching out to available teams in Southern Oregon and 3 CIF sections (North Coast, North and San Joaquin). Unfortunately, we have not been able to find another opponent for this game. We are excited, however, about the lineup of events for homecoming. The schedule of events is listed below.

Although we are disappointed our 6-0 Varsity Football team will not be playing, we are excited to celebrate the diversity of programs and teams at EHS. The Lady Logger Soccer team is currently tied for first place in league after a hard fought win over Arcata and the Boys Logger Soccer team is 4-2 in league and will play under the lights on Saturday, October 21st as the featured game. Please help us fill Albee Stadium and show your support. Homecoming is a time to bring together alumni, family, friends and community – come join the Logger Family for a week of tradition and fun!

Looks like McKinleyvilles handling of their supposed racist crisis came back to bite them in the ass

it looks like the method in which the parents of the teens involved in the racial slurs handled the situation have ruined it for the others. maybe the parents should sit out their next game or two.

Why is it that Mack can only get 12-15 kids to play football? Something has happened that kept the kids from being interested in playing football this year. Was it the coaching staff change? Last year was the first year for their new head coach. This is certainly a poor situation that Mack put the other teams into. Punishing their own team also punished the other teams and their students and fans. I’m heartbroken for EHS seniors that will always remember sitting out the last homecoming game of their HS football career. I wonder if that was contemplated by Dutra and Collart as they were making this decision. Hoopa and Southfork invariably seem to have low turnouts but always find a way to play the game. When I played, a lot of guys did play both ways and were just fine. In my opinion, all these new rules and regulations have made these boys soft. Hopefully, Dutra can figure out what the problem is at Mack and get this team back into the winning ways of 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992. Teams from that era always fielded 40-50 players and their thirds strings were better than most other schools first string

They don’t have to sit home! Why don’t they get creative like have alumni vs varsity or get varsity vs EPD … they need to get creative instead of sitting around whining about another team ‘ruining’ it for them!

I understand it is due to too many head injuries. They had canceled a game or two before the last one.

So what is the REAL SCOOP on the Mack Varsity Football team? I know someone out there knows the story……This is really shi*** how it’s effecting EHS homecoming. I would be a whole lot more concerned about the Jr that was at the brewery with a fake I.D. drinking with the coaches than I would be about some poorly chosen words written on a white board.

that was the B-ball team and asst. coach last year. notice how it never made the news, kind of like Kyle’s mom getting arrested for possession of Meth, again. I sent my kid to AHS while living in Mck for a reason. you got to love sour uneducated politics.
