Little Updates on Unresolved Incidents in the News–An Unexplained Death, Escaped Robbers, and a Skeleton at CR
Readers often have questions about stories. They want to know happened next. Sometimes we get answers that aren’t really an entire story but are of interest to us and, we believe, to our readers. Sooo, here’s a short recap of what we think you might want to know:
- On September 24, after a mysterious incident on the Avenue of the Giants, 21-year-old Drake Gammell living in the Southern Humboldt area was injured and put on life-support and later died. His girlfriend, Chelsea Leanne Cookston, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to Lt. Dennis Young of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, “We are waiting for the completion of the autopsy report to determine cause of death for the man on the Avenue. Not sure when that will be.”
- On September 25, two men allegedly stole marijuana at gunpoint in Garberville and then crashed while being chased by their victim. The two men have still not been located. According to Lt. Young, officers “did find evidence in the motel room that indicated the victim was telling the deputies the truth, i.e. discarded zip ties.”
- On September 26, PG&E workers discovered human remains. According to Lt. Dennis Young, “The human remains found at CR were bones only. The only way we can identify that individual is with a return from [Department of Justice] of the DNA markers. That return takes 6 months or longer.” So we’ll have to wait awhile for answers.
