Sheriff’s Office Wears Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office staff will be wearing pink hats during the month of October in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Sheriff’s Office employees, co-workers, family and friends have been affected by cancer and we understand what is needed to keep up the fight. Our goal is to help increase awareness in our community by showing support for cancer patients and their families.

If you would like to stand with the Sheriff’s Office and support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have a limited number of hats that will be made available to the public for a $25.00 donation. Our goal is to raise at least $1500.00 from the sale of the hats, but we’d be happy to raise more! Hats can be purchased at the Cloney’s Pharmacy in Mckinleyville, 1567 City Center Road, Cloney’s Pharmacy 2515 Harrison Avenue, Eureka and at Green’s Pharmacy, 906 Main Street, Fortuna.

All proceeds, as well as a donation from the Humboldt Deputy Sheriff’s Organization, will be donated to the Humboldt Breast and Gyn Health Project, a local non-profit organization which offers cancer resource services free of charge.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a huge thank you to Lotus Mountain in Fortuna for doing a great job on the hats and working with us to help keep our money in the local community, and to Cloney’s and Green’s for providing a place to make hats available to the public.

More money in awarness then the cure. Who isnt aware of breast canser by now anyways. Not like it is something that no one knows about or hasnt meet someone who has been effectes by it.

For all the ‘awareness’, mammograms are unpleasant. Like nagging smokers to quit, nagging women to get screened is an ongoing process. My own sister knew, just knew, she likely had breast cancer but put off getting it checked because her husband was sick. As she put it ‘I don’t have time for this now.’

Sooo why is it okay for them to wear these hats, but it’s not okay for the fireman to wear that teeny tiny BLM pin!?!?

Because canser awareness is not a political statement

Please, ladies, take care of yourselves, consider a mammogram and women’s health services in general.

Breast cancer may not be entirely preventable, but regular screenings may save you from a horrible death from invasive cancer.

I have lost two sisters in law to this condition, mostly since neither got mammograms or regular services until it was stage 3.

Breast health is not a joke, get screened!
