Casterlin School Students Raise Almost $5000 for Hurricane Harvey, Trinity County Fire Victims

This is a press release from Casterlin School:

On Wednesday, September 13th, 28 students at Casterlin School participated in a Walk-a-Thon and color run to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims and Trinity County fire victims.

These caring and dedicated students raised $4779.20, partly by donation, partly by per-lap sponsorship. Three students walked/ran almost 4 miles, and the average lap count was over 20 laps (a 4-year-old ran 24 laps!). One student raised $1310 in donations, by far the largest collection, and all participating students were excited to be instrumental in helping others.

The event was such a positive experience for everyone. As students progressed, there was such a sense of camaraderie and support. The many parents who joined in to help count laps and cheer on the students were equally enthused.

After the Walk-a-Thon, everyone enjoyed a spaghetti dinner provided by the After School program. Then families went back to the field, this time for a Color Run organized by Debbie Rodas and Jessica Champ. It was a great way to end the event, and fun was had by all.

Thanks go to all the family, friends, and community members, staff, and especially the students of Casterlin School, that made this fundraiser such a success. Helping others, especially those in such need, is a wonderful learning experience for everyone.

Funds have been delivered to Habitat for Humanity for Hurricane Harvey victims and Trinity County for fire relief.

Give it to local fire please.Only around 5% of that hurricane Harvey $ will actually be put to use in helping victims, these internet/TV “fundraisers” are just that. Scamming Americans into believing your helping a good cause when in fact it goes into some fat cats bank account because they need to cover “expenses”!

Agree with you Mr. Buzzard, from my previous experiences with hurricanes in Florida, the Red Cross and other agencies will raise tens of millions for disaster relief, distribute very little and take the money and run. Presumably to bank the money for future relief efforts. The most effective agencies I have observed have been local civic or faith based groups. The students however should be commended for their kindness.
