Gang Member Sentenced to Seven Years for Armed Robbery

Press release from the District Attorney’s Office:

Anthony Burgess

Anthony Burgess

Today, 25-year-old Anthony Manuel Burgess was sentenced to 7 years in state prison after pleading guilty to using a firearm during the commission of a robbery in Eureka on August 10, 2017.  Burgess is a member of the Sureño gang, known by the gang moniker, “Creeper.”  On August 9, 2017, the victim of the robbery met a man, later identified as Riordan Eugene Cockrum, near Wabash and B Street in Eureka.  The victim arranged with Cockrum to meet the next day at Hammond Park in order to sell him 2 pounds of marijuana.  When the victim arrived for the meeting, Cockrum was accompanied by Burgess. After the meeting began, Burgess held a gun to the victim’s head and demanded the marijuana.  After the robbery, Burgess and Cockrum fled on foot and the victim called 911.  In response to the call, Eureka Police Department officers quickly apprehended Cockrum but Burgess was not found. The victim later identified Burgess in a photo lineup.  On August 27, 2017, California Highway Patrol officers arrested Burgess after he fled on foot from a traffic stop.

Think he’ll do the 7, or more like 18 months?

Being a violent gang affiliated criminal, he will probably rack up additional charges in prison. So I expect to see him watch people come and go while he rots. Telling the homeboys in prison he got locked up for stealing 2 pounds in humboldt, I think they will laugh. Could’ve grown more weed in his backyard than that.

Given that the charge for which he was convicted is a “Violent” felony under California’s Three Strikes Law, he’ll serve 85% of the total sentence, or just shy of the full 6 years (5 years 346 days).

This dumb sh___ has proven he doesn’t belong around people. He is the definition of “lifetime criminal”. He is old enough to be an adult; but in some ways still just a kid. So sad so many “kids’ are ruining their lives at such young ages. Don’t know all the answers, but I think it starts with family. A parent is a parent until they die, even if your child is 70 and you are 90. If you can’t commit to that from day one, do not have children. The greatest joy in life is raising a child, helping them through the ups and downs, being there for them always and giving them all the tools to be a good person. This ‘kid’ obviously had nobody who cared, but is old enough to make changes in his life if he wants to. Very sad, but so glad I won’t be seeing him here for several years. (I hope).

What a coward, couldn’t cut it as a real person and get a job and earn your money. 2000 dollars worth of weed is worth 1/4 of your lived life. That’s pathetic. That goes for all the rest of the gangbangers too. Dredges of the world, taking something by force. That’s like a toddler taking something from another toddler, except these guys never grew up and got the picture.

18 months maximum. And when he gets out, he’ll be a better, and much more dangerous criminal.
Crime University: free room and board, and get the best education in your field. Pretty much have to kill somebody to get in these days, but we’ll take care of you from there and you’ll be out before you know it.

7 years wtf.he’ll be right back to it when he gets out. Gang activity doesn’t stop when they go to prison. They become worse, harder. They don’t get the help they need anymore.😣
