[UPDATE 3:05 p.m.] New Fire Breaks Out in Spyrock; One Structure and 10+ Acres Burning

Multiple major new fires are burning across Northern California–the Ponderosa in Butte County, the Pleasant in Nevada County, and the Helena in Trinity County. Now a new fire broke out in Mendocino on Spyrock Road.

The Rock, as the fire is called, began about 12:20 p.m. and is already over 10 acres according to scanner traffic. Below is a video from the scene by R. Scott Thomas.

Copter 102 from Cal Fire in Humboldt has been sent to the scene as have some of the other scarce resources from the county.

UPDATE 3:05 p.m.: According to a Cal Fire tweet, the Rock Fire is “contained at approximately 12 acres- units will remain at scene for 4-5 hours for mop up.”

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: Cal Fire tweets, “Confirmed total loss of 2 double wide mobile homes and extensive damage to shop building.”

There are 4 “Rock Fire”s on the CalFire site. None of them have Spy Rock’s fire location. This must be the fifth?
Good thoughts for the safety of these folks, and their critters.

Cal Fire takes a while to update their incident page, and smaller fires aren’t even listed

But they are here in 100 degree heat, with heavy gear putting themselves between the fire and us. Thank you Calfire!

This is the home Marion Bouke left to KMUD about 10 years ago. It has changed hands a few times since they sold it.

Thank you so very much to all of the fire fighters and neighbors who helped to save our home and property. Our house is right above the burned property and they stopped the fire about 150-200′ below our house!! Did I say “THANK YOU”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
