mendocino sheriff's cloth badgeOn 8-23-2017, at approximately 7:15 P.M., a Deputy from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office noted a suspicious vehicle in front of the Redwood Market in Covelo. The vehicle later left the location, at a high rate of speed on Highway 162, driving into town. The Deputy followed the vehicle and paced it’s speed at 50 Miles per hour (in a posted 25 MPH zone). Because of other vehicle traffic, the Deputy lost sight of the vehicle for a short period time.

The Deputy eventually located the vehicle, parked on the side of the road, at the intersection of Highway 162 and Howard Street, with a single Male Hispanic inside. As the Deputy was speaking to the male driver of the vehicle, he was approached by a citizen who reported that prior to his arrival a male Hispanic had fled from the vehicle, running towards Main Street. The Deputy then directed a passing Traffic Officer from the California Highway Patrol to attempt to locate that person.

Learning that the CHP Officer had detained a male Hispanic in the area of Main Street, the Deputy responded to the Officers location. Upon his arrival he learned that the a prohibited assault rifle was located near the area where the CHP Officer had contacted the male Hispanic. When the male Hispanic was questioned, he stated that the rifle belonged to Suspect #1 Roberto Bartolo. However, when S#1 Bartolo was questioned, he stated that the rifle was owned by Suspect #2 Adrian Martinez-Rodriguez. Both Bartolo and Martinez-Rodriguez were then arrested for possession of a California prohibited assault weapon.

During a subsequent search Suspect #2 Martinez-Rodriguez was found to be in possession of a concealed fixed bladed knife. Additionally, A criminal records check was done on both suspects. During that check it was determined that S #1 Bartolo was a convicted felon.

Suspect #1 Roberto Bartolo was placed under arrest for a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm. He was transported to the Mendocino County jail where he is being held on $25,000 bail.

Suspect#2 Adrian Martinez-Rodriguez was placed under arrest for possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a concealed dirk, or dagger. He was transported to the Mendocino County jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail.

  • Loaded for bear! Maybe somebody’s life was saved today!!Nice stop,”UP TOP”

  • While neither of these morons should have any weapons, a prohibited assault rifle may just be an ar with a flash hider now or an sks with a bayonet lug or some bs, I’m sure if it was a real assault rifle they would have pics so you could see the evil black gun. This state is ludicrous when it comes to guns, I can’t belive a gun you bought last year is now considered an assault weapon and illegal to own unless it’s registered as such, still only holds 10 rds, still doesn’t have a removable mag. California is set up so the law abiding citizen will ALWAYS be outgunned, criminals will always be better armed, ludacris. This article right here shows it doesn’t work at ALL, felon in possession of a scary illegal assault weapon and 2500$ bucks he’s back on the street with another one! Anyways my 2cents worth be safe out there.

    • Check out the modern air powered weapons. Every bit as powerful as “fire” arms, and readily available to felons!!

      • Air guns are under the same guidelines as powder ones, they both use compressed gas in the eyes of the law, (they might be able to buy one without paperwork but if caught it’s the same charge) crossbow or regular bow are the exception for felons. However criminals never have a problem getting guns when they need them, it’s just a pain for the rest of us.

Felons and dope growers should be banished from the country.

Deport our criminals to North Korea.

We don’t want them in our country.

        • an air rifle, has nothing in common with a firearm, you can purchase one anywhere, felon or non felon, there may be an age restriction. but certainly not a federal crime to purchase or to possess.
