Dennis Lee Huber: Dedicated Builder of Both Construction Projects and His Beloved Community

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you? Pet remembrances are also welcome.

Dennis Lee Huber, 69, of Briceland, passed from this life on May 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends.

Dennis was born to Terri and Milton Huber on Feb. 13, 1948, in Eureka. He is survived by his wife, Ellie; his sons, Geoffrey and Matt; stepsons, Jason and Abe; three brothers — Jon, Kent and Brian; and his grandchildren, Kienan, Mary, Alyssa, Alana, Maxx and Nate.

His early years were spent growing up both in Eureka and in Southern Humboldt, where the family owned a cabin on the Eel River. Deeply rooted in Humboldt County, Dennis dedicated himself to being a builder in many ways. He became an accomplished woodworker, specializing in lumber reclamation, recycling and remodeling projects, But he was also dedicated to building community by working tirelessly on civic-minded efforts and local political campaigns. His loss is immeasurable.

A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held on Sept. 9, 2017, at the southern Humboldt Community Park from 3 to 8 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a side dish and their love.

I attended Eureka Senior High with Dennis. He was my boyfriend Junior and part of Senior year 1966. He was smart, with a great sense of humor and a true gentleman. My heart goes out to his Wife, children, relatives and friends. Too young. So sad.
