A motorcyclist received a serious injury to his leg when there was a collision with a vehicle behind Safeway on Redwood Way in Fortuna about 10 minutes to six this evening. According to Sgt. Charles Ellebrecht of the Fortuna Police, “A preliminary investigation shows the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Redwood Way when a Ford Escort was traveling westbound and turned south in the path of the motorcyclist.”

The motorcycle struck the car. The biker received a broken leg as well as some abrasions. However, he was talking and alert when he left in an ambulance. The driver of the car was uninjured. NO alcohol and drugs factor

The driver of the car was uninjured. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to Ellebrecht.

Common type accident. If the car had been using its turn signal the biker would have been alerted.
PLEASE WATCH FOR MOTORCYCLES & USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS
EVERY TIME

Thank you! This is exactly why I quit riding; too many oncoming drivers not signaling before turning left in front of me.

They shouldn’t be turning left in front of oncoming traffic, signalling or otherwise.

True but motorcycles are more difficult to see than cars and our minds are programmed more to see other cars. It will always be the case. Loud pipes dont help much but sure let everyone know that you’re a self centered asshole.

Additionally, due to the smaller profile of motorcycles, it is easy for people to underestimate the speed at which the motorcycle is approaching. They think they have time to turn but they don’t.

Tread on tires is for gravel, dirt and water puddles on pavement. The lack of tread (bald tires) does not adversely affect traction on dry pavement.

I didn’t say it didn’t, it was simply an observation.

Is this the same white bike that fly’s down Rohnerville Road from Baseyo Village going about 70mph winding it up 2-3 times a day? We’ve been waiting for a crash to occur.

No, I was there as well. the car had a turing signal on. From what I heard the bike did not have thier headlight on. California law last time I checked states you need to have it on. Besides….. That’s a 35 mile an hr zone if the car came to a complete stop before the bike hit why wouldn’t the bike be able to stop in time? Hmm me thinks he was speeding.

Motorcycles are hard to see.And since there’s so many on the road today,we must really pay attention. I use my turn signal even when I pull down my small street. I let people cut in front of me trying to get out on the road when others won’t. I think they call that commen courtesy, which the drivers in this town DON’T UNDERSTAND. Be safe. Good luck to the motorcyclist
