Vegetation FireA fire sprang up after a tree fell into power lines near Evergreen Drive on Redwood Drive between Garberville and Redway a little after 6 a.m. The flames have burned between 1/4 and a 1/2 acre so far, according to the Incident Commander over the scanner.

It feels as tho Redway is one big homeless camp if the property owners are not monitoring their land. I have kicked more than a few off my land. Sad really.

But maybe they could have been the cause of the tree falling? JK

Thank you for stating that the homeless didn’t start the fire Kym Kemp! I really appreciate that very much, as I feel like a lot of southern Humboldt people are frequently accusing the homeless of acts mostly carried out by those who are housed or by nature. Stay impartial and nonjudgmental in your reporting sister! Of course and always kudos to our local firefighters keeping our community safe!!!

Aren’t hazards like this tree one we would hope those PG&E helicopter surveys crews could/would spot as a potential hazards needing attention? Glad we have the volunteers and Eel River Con Camp crew on the scene. There is a lot of brush, deadwood, and tall grass from Evergreen RD to the freeway, north through upper Redway, & over to the 101 South Redway freeway exit.
