Large New Fire Burning South of Ruth Lake; Structures Threatened
Lightning sparked multiple new fires in the last few days. One, in particular, sprang up yesterday and expanded rapidly. As of 8 p.m. last night, the Dutchman as it is called had swallowed around 450 acres mostly in timber and was 0% contained. According to the Northern California Geographic Area Coordination Center (ONCC), this wildfire is “burning at a rapid rate of spread with spotting and running.” Down draft winds from current thunderstorms
The fire is south of Ruth Lake and east of Zenia about seven miles in the Dutchman Creek watershed.
One major structure and multiple outbuildings are threatened, said the ONCC. “Down draft winds from current thunderstorms…continues to cause hazardous conditions for firefighters.”
