According to California State Senator Mike McGuire, “AT&T crews believe the #Humboldt fiber/internet outage was caused by damage to the fiber line due to the Saw Fire near Garberville.”

Unfortunately, McGuire tweeted this won’t be fixed soon. He wrote, “According to AT&T, their crews are not able to access area until deemed safe per Cal Fire. More updates to come. No timeline on a fix.”

UPDATE 10:45 a.m.: Good news! McGuire tweeted, “AT&T has been cleared to enter the Saw Fire zone to begin fixing the fiber line. Grateful to the quick work by CalFire!”

Let’s hope the problem is easy to fix!

UPDATE 4:31 p.m.: Steven Ramirez, spokesperson for AT&T, tells us,

Due to fiber damage resulting from a fire, some wireline customers in Humboldt and surrounding areas may be experiencing issues with their service. Technicians are engaged and working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

UPDATE 11 p.m.: Ramirez informs us, “Service is restored for customers in Humboldt and surrounding areas who had issues with their wireline service.”

It is working in Redway, wasn’t in miranda this morning. Verizon cell service in Miranda was down also. It works fine in Redway. AT&T told me on the phone that they were repairing the lines and it may be down until tomorrow. She did give me a 20 dollar credit on my bill, I will have to watch for that one.

In fact, you can see where the cable starts on poles in a photo that has been uploaded to this website. See comment image
That is Lower Sawmill Rd. on the left side of the photo. The camera is looking East towards Upper Sawmill Rd.
