A Home Caught on Fire in Willow Creek Early This Morning; Possible Arson

At approximately 0400 hours on this date, 08/04/2017, a residential fire was reported in the Willow Creek area. The structural fire was located near the intersection of Bigfoot and Sunset roads. The fire involved a single residence which was totally involved and destroyed.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has Arson Investigators and patrol deputies on Scene and we are awaiting the arrival of the Humboldt County Arson Task Force investigators to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At this point, the fire appears to be suspicious in nature.

More information will be released as it becomes available. The investigation is in the initial stages of evidence collection.

The Home owner was a Engine Captain for the United States Forest Service. He was assigned to the Orleans Complex during the fire. He has a Wife and Five Children. A ” Go Fund Me” page has been set up for the Family. https://www.gofundme.com/lanning-family-house-fire
