What’s funny is most people I talk to think the mateel volunteers get a little full if themselves. Ego on the river. Only at meteel events in Humboldt does everyone with a staff shirt on wanna bark orders at anyone they deem lower than them on their festival totem pole .. which as a goer to many a hundred festival it’s possible the worst vibes there are as far as staff and volunteers and that woman who is always squealing on stage about herself… Don’t know her name, but come on mateel, give her ego a rest. The whole place needs a serious batch or electric Kool aid and less beer and weed and coke..seriously, give anyone a radio and and t-shirt with staff or security on the back and see how nice they are. Life transforming festival? Clearly the folks saying this have not been to too many other festivals in the world… Even the dry ones are a million times more psychedleic and “irie” than reggae
… And down river is fuxked afterwards, so thanks

Boycott reggae on the river!! Locals go for free.. that’s what bonaroo does. Everyone in Manchester the gets two free tickets to do with as they please. That’s what a really world famous festival does, they treat the neighbors the best, everyone within earshot or rumbly reggase bass the same lines over and over and over and over should go free, v.i.p. that’s a challenge to any mateel board member reading this….

Reggae on the River changed my life 20 years ago, I never meet any rude volunteers or security. Are you sure it’s not the attitude you project? It’s been round long before other festies you speak of. To compare new current festies is silly. At ROTR you don’t have to pack craps for days since you could drive home or take the bus out for any necessities left. More friends will be there than just the ones you came with. If your car takes a crap, no big deal you can hitch or bus it home & tow it the next day. Its not crammed with gazillions of folks. I hate inching thru thick crowds, feeling like a lil sardine. The weather is usually nice & much better than further south or out east. Hooray a giant festival in absolute humidity and dust. Personally Id take ROTR Anyday over other shows.
P.s. Remind me, to not invite you to my camp. No Debbie Downers allowed.

I’ve learned that folks pushing 60 or more or less and talk about “I been around” or such talk are just yuppies. So have fun with that. Some people have lived on festival tour and rotr, no my own projection, is the lamest. Guess I don’t like reggae either much, but that’s besides . Not many people know the best secret in America, respective to all of America, so that’s alright. Go rage reggae brah or sis

That is like such a cool and heavy comment about stuff, man…

It changed my life reading that and I hope we can share nugs and kind vibes to share.

I’ll be there!

Look for my diesel lifted truck with an equality sticker on the back, and The Devil’s Lettuce over the windshield, man.

Like, my dreads are long with pieces of straw in them and my dog on a rope has ribs showing and a blue bandanna. His name is Marley!

But, brother- my dreads are like fake, but bought in Arcata, so it’s cool man- but don’t share that secret man.

See you there! I’ll be running a SFV OG grow off the generator in the camper shell for maximum effect dance party of rad vibes.

I converted the fourth diesel tank on the truck into a keg of dabs bro!

Look me up for the hook up!

I am still in love with Bob Marley’s music and find it hard to accept any others who’ve followed in his shoes.
I have a strange bias, but, at least I own it.

Bob Marley, wonderful of course, was not the be-all-and-end-all of reggae music.

Probably never heard this group and record but should have:

Why so many negative vibes? It is a community festival with money going to local non-profits. How can that be a bad thing?

It would be sweet if the entire festival is arrested and sent to a hard labor camp, building a wall that when completed will keep them from ever entering the country again.

These dope smokers just can’t control themselves when it comes to destroying the environment, I just don’t understand their hatred and war on nature.

God help us….

SLIGHTLY stupid? Reggae music, as practiced, is neither. Cool sounds for the developmentally disabled and those folks as are stoned 24/7… If you enjoy this “festival”, you are a pawn of those who would take your excess money to entertain you somewhat, while you occupy a dusty dry spot by the hiway awaiting the sobriety of the next day.

I love watching the drug victims pulling out after the weekend of extreme intoxication. We have the CHP on ready alert!

Slightly Stupid indeed!

Kind of reminds me of a Grateful Dead concert. I remember Deadheads telling me “you can’t listen to their albums you have to hear them live” and under the influence. And for you righteous anti drug types it was a really good time. I was on to Jimmy Cliff before I heard Bob Marley, who I saw live at Santa Barbara. I never imagined Reggae would still be jammin’ 40 years later. ” One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain”.

Nothing like grateful dead past present or future. “They aren’t the best at what they do, they,re the only ones who do what they do.” Acid at reggae would suck anyway, but only way to make the music interesting.. go watch some interviews by branford marsellias, Bruce Hornsby, Warren haynes, Mike’s Davis.. they will all tell you that the grateful dead was different than anything else.

Hey, let’s talk about the old days before it wears off!

Jesus, how lame. Dave Kirby. What are you, like 75?

Jerry Garcia is currently still dead over 20 years. That shit is OVER…

My wife used to say “they sound like they are underwater”.

I finally understand.

Dear “Reggae on the River” and the Mateel Community Center Staff & Board,

If your “rainwater catchment pond” was empty last week when inspected by County DEH, how can you claim:

A dream come true for organizers and agency partners, this 780,000+ gallon rainwater catchment pond was installed by Two Brothers Construction and will enable the water supply necessary to effectively manage the ROTR site, with sufficient excess to recharge the aquifer at the driest time of year and offset the festival’s total water usage. This improvement will make Reggae On The River® a water neutral/ positive event- the first of its kind.
