Kingpin? Why do we think we’re missing something? [Image from here]

On 07-25-17 at about 2115 hrs the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was called out. The Eureka Police Department had located a suspicious object in the gutter near the intersection of N and Del Norte Streets. EOD team members responded and located a cylindrical object with what appeared to be caps on both ends. Team members were able to render the object safe. It was determined the object was possibly an older style kingpin

UPDATE 10:56 a.m.: This is a more accurate image of what was originally thought to be an explosive.

“The only thing to fear, is fear itself”

In an alternate universe where 9/11 didn’t happen, truck kingpins are known to be relentlessly safe.

Thanks Saudi Arabia. Your 15 of 19 have made everyday something to fear.

“Team members were able to render the object safe.” Doesn’t that require it being initially unsafe?

Lol That was my first thought too. A pretty unfortunate choice of words. They could have ‘determined it to be safe’ and not have created a joke at their own expense.

One time it was a fishing pole. Another time it was a piece of pvc pipe in Sequoia Park that the jousters left behind.
