Nearly 3 Pounds of Heroin and a Loaded Firearm Found as a Result of a Search Warrant
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
The Humboldt County Drug Task Force in conjunction with Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit secured a Humboldt County Superior Court search warrant for 23 year old James Boatsman, his vehicle and his residence.
On July 22 at around 6:00 P.M. Special Agents with the Task Force observed Mr. Boatsman driving his vehicle north bound Hwy 101 near Richardson’s Grove State Park. They conducted a traffic enforcement stop and searched Mr. Boatsman and his vehicle pursuant to the search warrant.
With the assistance of the Humboldt County District Attorney Investigator’s narcotics detection K-9, Special Agents located 2.91 pounds of suspected heroin as well as a loaded firearm. Mr. Boatsman was placed under arrest and transported to the jail. He was booked for possession of a narcotic for sale, transportation of a narcotic, possession of loaded handgun in a vehicle, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a narcotic.
Today at about 11:30 A.M. Eureka Police Department Detectives and Drug Task Force Special Agents served the search warrant at Mr. Boatsman’s residence located in the 600 block of 16th Street in Eureka. Officers located paraphernalia associated with the use of heroin but no other items of an evidentiary nature were found.
This investigation is ongoing and future arrests are anticipated. Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-444-8095 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 707-268-2539.

Great job! A lot of junk off the street! Great start, keep the momentum going!!
Good work to the two agencies and the K9. How much of jail time will he see? Even so, good that you inconvenienced him and set him back . Make them uncomfortable !
Two words, junkies: withdrawal sucks! Also: inpatient rehab! Have a nice day!
Nice work EPD!
Where did he get it? Did they stop him after he purchased the heroin from another location out of the county? or Did they stop him before he left the county? No cash confiscated? There’s more to this story that we are not being told.
Well it’s easy he picked up and was on his way back to shitville and got stoped in sohum.they were watching him and if u get caught with cash u don’t get in as much trouble as with heroin and transportation.your fucked oh and the gun.
Gee, sure, law enforcement must reveal ALL details of any investigation to the general public. That way the bad guys have a better chance of disappearing. It’s only fair…
This is good work. This junk needs to be off the street and destroyed.
They are not going to destroy it; they will redistrubute it.
Glad that batch of heroin is off the streets, but sure there is a lot more out there–
That is a mountain of smack! Wonder who hes going to turn states evidence on? That much should have a mandatory amount of time behind bars?
He bought it from someone who no doubt has 100 lbs. Who do you think he will snitch on?
Lot of junkies will b missing there next hit.
best news in months bravo cops may be you guys aren’t so worthless after all.
when that [edit] wakes up and realizes his life is over [edit] all kinds of folks are going down, when he’s done singing,,,,that is some Moma’s baby going down pretty hard,,,,sad,, but it was his choice,,,,great work getting that shit off the street
His life is not over. He might get a couple of years inside, probably county time. His life will be OVER when the cartel guy he rats out catches up with him when he gets out & goes to explain & get his first hit.
You guys watch too many movies. (Ha, just teasing; don’t get mad.) Why would the guy testify against his cohorts? No reason, he’ll just do his time, and like someone said above, he’ll be out and back to work soon enough. It’s a shame that the United States has guaranteed the safe import of Heroin from Afghanistan, while at the same time going after occasional pot-smokers across America.

( “Fox News” so the “right” has a harder time attacking the source.)
Excellent work EPD!!! Another major bust under your belt.
Now I wonder how long it will be before the Sheriffs Dept. lets him go free on his own recognizance so he can disappear over the border? Like they usually do.
Oh that’s right, he’s probably not a cartel mule so they’ll likely keep his ass locked up. It helps when the cartel is backing you, so much better than an expensive lawyer.
Yep
This dude’s in for some serious probation once he is tried in a Humboldt Court! That’ll teach him.
DAMMMN I don’t know anything about heroin but that seems like a SHIT LOAD! I hope he ROLLS! Can’t be too far from the source with that much. Good job. Probably get 40years in any other state, be out in a week here ridiculous.
Sick and tired of being addicted? Don’t let the fear of asking for help hold you back from the life you deserve. Reach out, there are many folks exactly like you that have risen from the grips of addiction. Recovery is easier than the life you’re living now. Love awaits you.
Someone is hating it lol probably a grip of people waiting on the dope man who will never arrive.
That’s nice. But when will the police turn their attention to the real problem- weed and the dope growers who have infested this county?
The real problem is heroin and those other drugs not weed. Yes it causes problems but heroin addict are all over the streets shooting up in plain sight in front of restaurants. If it wasn’t for weed this area would be a ghost town. Half of the business wouldn’t be here. The money from grows help keep these local stores stay in business.
So that’s what James Corden has been up to.
Ha that’s crazy. I worked with this guy at Fox Farm back in early 2016. Me and another guy there used to joke about how he must be a drug dealer cause he was always sneaking off to make phone calls. Small world
I’ve known him for many years. He got into the gang life and went to shit. He’s a felon and a thief. It’s very sad this drug took him to the dark side … I hope he can get clean…..
What gang life? Chunks is just a low level expendable mule.
He will be out in no time. And everone will still be saying thank you law enforcement. Meanwhile it cost tax payers money. THANKY YOU LAWS THAT DON’T WORK AND COST TAX PAYERS MONEY!!!! WAKE UP
Is 3 pounds of heroin a lot? I don`t know much about drugs. What would this be equivalent to in marijuana? For example, a pound of pot isn`t much; a few months supply for a serious stoner. 10 pounds is the production of a small time backyard grower. 200 pounds is a lot; this is serious commercial growing. So, what approximately would this amount of heroin equal? Just a junkie`s supply or was he likely to sell it?
to put in in perspective, for most people a decent hit is no more than .25 of heroin.
you do the math…
3lbs is a lot.
Look 3lbs of heroin is ALOT Humboldt you have a big opium problem weed seems to be the least of your worries in the last two months over 5lbs of dope[reported here] if they only get 10percent then do the math holy shit your fucked its only going too get worse you think crime is bad now you will wish there were more weed heads out the woods pay attention Chump you too will wish for the good old days of the devils lettuce
3lbs is a shit ton, seeing as how if its good people can be nodding like zombies from .1 to .2
you do the math
What the article fails to mention is that, while DTF and POP were jointly drafting their press release to solicit public accolades, Mr. Boatsman was allowed to bail out before probation could be contacted to secure a felony probation hold. And POOF!…he is long gone. The search of his residence was to find HIM the next day, not to gather more evidence; like they needed any more evidence. Sooooo…Mr. Boatsman remains at large. Maybe probation holds should take priority over press releases.
