Correctional Deputies Stop Inmate’s Attempt to Hang Himself, Reports the Sheriff’s Office

Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

Humboldt County Sheriff badgeOn Friday, July 14, 2017 at about 2201 hours, while performing a routine cell check, a correctional deputy discovered a male inmate in his cell with a blanket tied around his neck in an apparent suicide attempt.

Additional deputies and medical staff quickly responded to the scene and the subject was lowered to his bunk once the blanket was removed. The subject was in and out of consciousness as life-saving efforts were administered by staff until paramedics arrived on scene and took over care.

The subject was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital via ambulance and treated. The subject was stabilized and later discharged from the hospital and returned to the correctional facility. The subject remains under close observation for safety concerns at this time.

Without the quick response and successful life-saving measures initiated by correctional facility staff, this incident could have had a dire outcome.

Anyone with questions for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Correctional Facility at (707) 441-5159.

Who was it?
Why bother to force somebody to live that doesn’t want to?

They let the subject die then they are accused of improper treatment. No win situation.

Lettuce withdrawals are powerful. The addic will say it’s not addictive and harmless so he won’t have to quit, because he knows he is powerless against it and can never quit.

I wonder what the crime is this person is accused of?

Suicide leaves behind loved ones that are left for years and years with a complex mixture of negative emotions regarding the event.

If anyone is struggling with these issues or even considering leaving people that care about you behind, please don’t be afraid to talk to someone about it.

For the survivors, all that can be done is to speak to others who have lost someone and by sharing those roller coaster emotions, you’ll learn it’s okay to be angry about it. Talking about it, sharing those feelings is the only way to rise above the guilt and anger.

You’re not alone & what you are feeling might really help someone else understand the complexity of those powerful emotions.

Open up and break the cycle.

But they never helped the 18 yr old male inmate that was raped for over an hour a month ago, while everyone could hear. Maybe it was this guy… who cares, they’re only criminals. No rights for them. There’s not even enough room for everyone, they’re sleeping in “boats” in the halls. It’s jail. They’ve lost all human rights. Who would want to live?

Surviving lasts a lifetime.

Only sharing those upside down, out of control emotions with someone who had been through it can end that unsettling feeling.

Anyone that has faced this feels alone and is hesitant to share due to isolation.

You’re not alone, talking the anger out is the only way.
