[UPDATE 7:06 p.m.] Vegetation Fire Near East Side of McKinleyville

Vegetation FireA vegetation fire is burning in the Green Diamond property east of McKinleyville near Essex Lane off of Murray Road. The first call went out about 3:50 p.m. An air attack, a tanker, and a helicopter have been requested as well as ground crews.

UPDATE 4:37 p.m.: A potential for 10 acres, according to traffic over the scanner from one of the aircraft.

UPDATE 4:51 p.m.: An additional response called for, including a water tender from Fieldbrook Fire and a dozer.

UPDATE 6:27 p.m.: The “Diamond” Incident Commander has hand crews putting a line around the fire. A Green Diamond employee will be walking the dozer in.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: The fire is at 1.5 acres, according to traffic on the scanner.

UPDATE 7:06 p.m.: Supervisor Ryan Sundberg states on a closed community watch group on Facebook that the fire is “about a 5 acre fire that is fully under control.”



  • tis gonna be a bad yr for the forest and gas loving critters. i hope it will be a good yr for the health and survival of those 2 leggeds who firefight.

    i pray all the time that no one tosses anything out a passing vehicle that will set the field next to me ablaze. from the # of cig butts i pick up at the crab park beach and area, well, people SUCK with their inability to be mindful and caring.
